Your doggo’s daily walks are his favourite time of the day (probably even more than mealtimes). Yet, to most pet parents, the purpose of the walk is to get their dog’s ‘business’ out of the way. But walks are more than just potty breaks for your dog. They truly enjoy themselves because of the typical doggo things they get to do- sniff new smells, meet other dogs and new people, catch up on the news of the neighbourhood😋 🦮Walking is a great way to get your dog both mentally stimulated and physically exercised. Using the right dog walk accessories is the most important to ensure your dog is comfortable throughout! Here’s how both of you can enjoy this time~ 1. Assume the role of pack leader: A lot of people let their dogs lead the way on a walk which is a bad idea because it makes the dog feel as if they need to shield you from the dangers that possibly await. The solution is to use calm-assertive energy to take back control, and to take the lead. It’s perfectly fine to have your dog at your side, but you always want to be just a fraction ahead. 2. Take leisurely walks: Walks are no fun if you or your dog are rushing through it. Set aside some time for it twice a day so you don’t have to hurry through it. 3. Let them sniff: This is a must! Constantly jerking back the leash and pulling him away from something will only make him more curious. Sniffing is mental stimulation, so it’s actually tiring them out more than the physical exercise of the walk. Be watchful of what they sniff and don’t let them pick up trash! 4. Change things up: Dogs like routine and they probably have a ‘favourite spot’ to do their business. But they also like to explore new routes and smells. So, every once in a while, surprise them with a diversion. 5. Make friends: Walks are a good opportunity to socialise with other dogs as well as hoomans. 6. Practice commands: Most dogs follow commands but when there’s a distraction, it might get difficult for them. So, carry a few training treats and practice when you go for a walk. Hope these pointers help you change your outlook towards walking your dog! Follow for more such tips💌 . . #thedoggos #dogwalkingtips

Is Your Dog Barking Non-Stop? Understanding the root cause of your dog's barking is the first step in managing it. Whether it's frustration, fear, or alerting you to something, each type of barking requires a different approach. Here’s some effective solutions that I give my clients who were in your current scenario: → Identify the cause: Is it frustration, fear, or simply an alert? Understanding the reason behind the barking makes it easier to address. → Use leash corrections: If your dog barks without reason, gently tug the leash and use a command like “quiet” or “enough.” → When the barking stops, reward your dog with positive reinforcement. → Doorbell barking: Allow a few barks at first, then if you’ve identified that there’s nothing reasonable to be barking at, use the command “enough” or “quiet.” → Consistent training ensures your dog learns when it’s time to stop. →Frustration and boredom: If barking stems from frustration, ensure your dog gets enough exercise. -For bored dogs, regular training sessions and socialization can help curb excessive barking. With patience and the right approach, you can reduce excessive barking and restore a peaceful home environment for both you and your dog. Side Note: Some breeds such as the German Shepherd, for example, are generally more vocal. Therefore, they may pose a greater challenge when it comes to curbing excessive barking. I've had multiple GSDs, TRUST ME, I know 😂. - Marc Windgassen No Drive... No Joy #DogTrainingTips #ExcessiveBarking #PeacefulHome #DogsBarking

When clients first approach me looking for help with challenging behaviour problems with their dogs many of them will tell me that they have already tried everything. The problem with trying everything is that this is likely to confuse the dog even more. The reality of the matter is that identifying why a dog behaves in a certain way is a time-consuming methodological process. Without a full understanding of dog behaviour it is very unlikely that trying “everything” is going to resolve the problem. For more insights read this week’s blog. https://lnkd.in/e3Y3TS7t #TriedEverything #DogAggression #DogBehaviour #DogBehaviourist #PositiveReinforcementDogTraining
