Cultural intelligence is as important as cultural literacy. That is to say, understanding a culture's capacity to evolve goes hand in glove with having a thorough knowledge of the parts of culture and their functions. Cultural Competency includes this awareness, and provides the platform for informed organisational transformation and is critical in managing change as articulated in Barrett's 5 Principles, below. When we want to see our group thrive, we need to understand how they best connect. Yes, having our values displayed on the wall isn't enough. They must live! This connection takes place in practical terms at the intersection of Emotional Intelligence, Cultural Competency, brought together with great Communications. Emotional Intelligence Day is EVERY Day! On the 6th June Emotional Intelligence Day was highlighted by many advocates, trainers and coaches led by the global foremost authority Six Seconds. I'm proud to be an associate of this organisation. The knowledge base, skills set development and tireless commitment to advancing Emotional Intelligence awareness, self-awareness in people worldwide over more than 25 years is commendable. But in truth, Emotional Intelligence Day is every day. Emotional Intelligence is not just a professional skill. It's a life skill we simply cannot do without. To stand on the side of humanity, in any situation where might is thought to be right, can sadly be incredibly counter-cultural. It requires the courage to challenge assumptions, established bias, the capacity to be outreaching to name a few. However, the recent State of the Heart report issued by Six Seconds reveals a continued downward trend in awareness and practice of the Competencies of Emotional Intelligence - the 'how to' when dealing with people. Locally and globally we are challenged to know and lean into our values, so that we can pursue our personal purpose with passion. And, in giving of our best selves, then the outcome MUST be a far safer and just world that reinvigorates hope, resilience and confidence that vivifies and inspires others. #emotionalintelligence #eq #interculturalcompetency

Happy World Day of Emotional Intelligence! 🌟 Reflecting on a time when clarity seemed so distant, I found the answer in training to become a practitioner and assessor of Emotional Intelligence that for me, was nothing short of transformative. This experience reignited my purpose, realigned my values, and deepened my commitment to personal growth. Emotional Intelligence is and has been, vital to my success. And I freely share that I so wish I'd imbibed EI at a much younger age. Firstly, I would have given myself a longer lead in time to the present where by now I would be more deftly practicing the Competencies. Secondly, some of my prior decision-making would have been far better informed, and likely with some different outcomes. Thirdly, the quality of my life and relationships would have been greatly elevated. A flourishing life is something we all crave. So, after happily reviewing your successes from this week, ask what more you would like to see yourself achieving. The more we push out our boundaries and become more self-aware, we learn more about our capacity and how to optimise it. Improve your ability to connect, internally and with others.
