Here is an awesome success story from our partners at Universal Robots and their customers, Bob's Red Mill. A growth initiative was undertaken and implemented with a new UR20 to grow their business with a goal of doubling the number of folks that enjoy their wholesome, often organic products by 2030. The best part is that everyone is a winner in this endeavor-the production team, the consumers, the shareholders. By utilizing an automated solution for palletizing, which enabled a double pick of boxes, which in turn optimized cycle rates, four employees were freed from manually hand packing each pallet! 🦾💪 A comment that really stood out to us was from one of the engineering managers: "The employees here at Bob's were really excited to see this palletizing technology come to their production line; if you are producing well, we all get a share of the company. For warehouse applications, the Reflex Robotics makes a lot of sense. It replaces legs with wheels able to spin the torso in place (X and Z axles) , the torso can compensate for height differentials (Y axle) and the hands can use grip for soft items or pressure for boxes. Earlier this week, our team – alongside Brenda Osler from Richmond Hill Economic Development – participated in a #YRtech site visit at Maple Advanced Robotics Inc. (MARI). This innovative Richmond Hill, York Region-based robotics company is specializing in AI-driven software platforms for the advancement and commercialization of robotics and machine vision in advanced manufacturing. MARI is currently working with industry leaders like Magna International, a global auto parts company headquartered in York Region. Their AI software solutions are being used to create maximum efficiency for autonomous robot activities like sanding and buffing metal and wood products. Their software adapts to teach itself at a pace far faster than traditional robot programming, leading to tasks being done quicker and with a higher degree of precision. This is an excellent example of a company in York Region leveraging access to top Canadian talent to develop innovative solutions for opportunities where software and hardware intersect on a global scale. This is the strength of the #YRtech ecosystem that is home to over 4,900 ICT companies! MARI's technology was developed with support from NGen Canada and has recently received a second round of funding to continue to advance their AI-software solutions. Wakko, the staple gun robot, effortlessly switches between custom-built staple guns to securely fasten panels. Meanwhile, Yakko, the layout robot, expertly handles lumber and plywood, placing them precisely according to the job's specifications. And Dot, the printer robot, adds the finishing touch by stenciling vital information directly onto the panels. But their capabilities don't end there! 🚨 BREAKING: GXO Logistics, Inc. Logistics has begun testing Reflex Robotics’ robot on its warehouse floors as part of its operational incubator program. A humanoid with a unique design. ⚜️ A "torso" mounted to a base holds arms and sensors that move up and down dynamically. The pilot aims to evaluate the robot's potential for handling tasks like removing empty cartons and managing corrugated materials from conveyors. Reflex Robotics’ humanoid starts with teleoperation and gradually transitions to autonomy by learning from human demonstrations. 🕹️ While still in early trials, the collaboration is part of GXO's broader robotics-as-a-service strategy, building on previous trials with other humanoids before. Reflex Robotics, founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumni, envisions future applications in shelf picking, order replenishment, and quality assurance.
