A craniectomy is a neurosurgical surgery used to treat brain swelling-related intracranial pressure. This medical video animation would walk you through this technique step-by-step. To reveal the skull, the surgeon first cuts a cut in the scalp. The enlarged brain is then given room to grow without being constrained by the removal of a portion of the skull using a specialized tool. By doing so, pressure is lessened and additional brain tissue injury is avoided. Neuroengineers, with their diverse backgrounds, play an important role in creating novel solutions to difficult brain problems. They work with neurosurgeons to develop enhanced instruments and techniques that make treatments like craniectomy more precise, minimally invasive, and efficient. Neuroengineers are pushing the frontiers of what is feasible in neurosurgery by combining engineering concepts with medical knowledge, resulting in better patient outcomes and quality of life. #brain #biomedicalengineering #neuroengineering #neurosurgery #techinnovations
