3️⃣0️⃣ November #Museum30 celebrates museums & heritage, a theme a day - 9th being Abstraction. Dunblane’s historic Leighton Library has a 1722 3-volume edition of “The works of John Locke” which includes “An Essay Concerning Human Understanding” in which English philosopher and physician (widely regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers) John Locke defined abstraction: “…the mind makes particular ideas received from particular things become general; which it does by considering them as they are in the mind—mental appearances—separate from all other existences, and from the circumstances of real existence, such as time, place, and so on. This procedure is called abstraction.” 🚶Visit Dunblane's historic Leighton Library 📅 Open only on Saturdays until Christmas 🕚 11am-4pm 🆓 Free admission (donations invited) https://lnkd.in/eZ4cprRi #Scotland #ScotlandIsCalling #VisitScotland #ExploreScotland #ScotlandIsNow

🌊 🌊 Want to get involved with the UN Ocean Decade? Here are some top tips on responding to the Decade Call for Action#7 from endorsed UK Decade Actions 🌊 🌊 Historic England’s ‘Unpath’d Waters’ is a 3-year research project which has been endorsed as a Decade contribution. The aim of the research is to connect universities, heritage agencies, museums, charitable trusts, and experts together to explore and enhance scattered marine heritage collections for preservation of the UK’s diverse maritime legacy. It is using Artificial Intelligence to devise new ways of searching across newly linked collections; simulations to help visualise the wrecks and landscapes; and science to help identify wrecks and find out more about them. It will deliver integrated management tools to help protect heritage and enable the public to co-design new ways of interacting with marine heritage and enhance it from their own collections. #UnpathdWaters will contribute to the Ocean Decade as part of the wider Cultural Heritage Framework Programme, which is led by the Ocean Decade Heritage Network and supported by one of their partners, Lloyds Register Foundation. Some top tips for applying are to “have early discussions with the relevant Programme, allow plenty of time to prepare the application, and look forward to the benefits that Endorsement will bring!” 🌊 🌊 Find more information on responding to the Decade Call for Action on our UKNDC FAQ page (link below) 🌊 🌊 🌊 Image: SS Apapa © Dr Michael Roberts, Bangor University
