So true! Drawing from my experience in the US Navy, where I served on a submarine designed to sink, I learned valuable lessons that apply beyond the sea. 🚢 Ships are built with watertight compartments to prevent sinking. Similarly, in life, compartmentalizing challenges helps to prevent one setback from capsizing everything. Control and focus on different areas to stay afloat. 👥 Just like every ship has a damage control party, ensure you have a support system in place during turbulent times. Lean on trusted individuals who can help you navigate rough waters and steer towards calmer seas. Remember, adversity is inevitable. How we handle challenges ultimately defines our journey. Submarine ‘Fact Friday’.   Ever wonder how submarines dive and surface?   To do this, submarines have compartments called ballast tanks. To dive, the ballast tanks are flooded with seawater by opening the flood valves. This makes the submarine neutrally buoyant in seawater, allowing it to submerge.   Maintaining neutral buoyancy is difficult to do, given that buoyancy depends on volume and weight. The volume of the submarine reduces as it descends deeper, and increases as it rises closer to the surface. To combat these effects, the buoyancy of the submarine is adjusted by adding or removing seawater from compensation tanks.   To surface, compressed air is blown into the ballast tanks, which forces the water out. This allows the submarine to become positively buoyant and rise to the surface.   ASC built Australia’s six Collins Class submarines and is now responsible for maintaining and sustaining the fleet for the Royal Australian Navy.   To learn more about ASC’s operations, visit: https://lnkd.in/g53FKuJt #defencejobs #defencecareers #sovereigncapability

An unmanned surface vehicle (#USV; #WaveGlider) was deployed to study the coastal #soundscape in shallow (less than 30 m) coastal waters off the coast of #CapeCanaveral, FL, in July 2020 and January 2022. These surveys documented temporal and seasonal trends in #biological #sounds across a variety of habitats within an 812-km2 survey area, including sand shoals, sand-mud plains, and natural hardbottom. Among a broader diversity of identifiable and unidentifiable #fish choruses recorded during the survey, a distinct and previously unidentified fish chorus was recorded; corroborating evidence suggests it and other sounds with similar spectral properties may be produced by Atlantic midshipman. Putative Atlantic midshipman sounds included an agnostic grunt and a seasonal chorus of persistent hums that peaked 3 h after sunset in the summer survey. While Atlantic midshipman have been demonstrated to have well-developed #sonic muscles on their swim bladder, their #acoustic behavior has not been previously described.
