Africa’s telecom landscape is on fire. Rising mobile adoption and sky-high customer expectations are pushing telcos to evolve faster. But how can they stay ahead? I chatted with Hassan Abdallah, Technical Director at the powerhouse Telecel Group. Telecel is a: — Multinational telco in 27 African countries — with more than 6 million active subscribers — that grew from a voice and SMS operator to a full mobile network provider. Telecel knows how to adapt to meet their customer needs. "Small companies are coming up with groundbreaking solutions that benefit users directly," Hassan says. “And disruptive ideas are often born outside the walls of traditional telcos.” This means that telcos need to be: — Open to collaboration: Partnering with startups can give them a competitive edge — Internally creative: Developing their own solutions to meet customer demands — In touch with their user behaviour: When customers want support on social channels such as Instagram and WhatsApp, telcos should comply By adding new features on top of essential services like internet access, telcos can stay competitive, while driving growth across the continent.
