Last September, AZ Big Media, the 35+ year old, Arizona-based media company that has the fastest growing news website in the US, published an interesting article about an #EIFS-clad project in southeastern #Arizona. Built by Willmeng Construction, Inc., the groundbreaking 34,000 square foot Clarence Wesley Health Center in Bylas will provide the San Carlos Apache community with a modern medical facility that offers a broader array of vital healthcare offerings than its predecessor. As part of the San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation, the new building will expand dental, optometry and pharmacy offerings and also include imaging services. Designed by Cuningham, the new center will also be clad in EIFS in order to provide “added energy efficiency to the facility.” The progressive design will also include a backup electrical system that can power the facility for 96 hours. Given EIFS’ performance attributes and financial value proposition, it is understandable why the system is being used for this project. After all EIFS’ has 20x the R-Value of old-fashioned, heavyweight materials like #brick. Additionally, data from RSMeans Data from Gordian confirms that #brick, #stone, #metalpanel, #precast and #curtainwall are all much more expensive than EIFS in different building applications all over the country. Clarence Wesley was dubbed “A Champion of Indian Rights,” and he was a two term President of the National Congress of American Indians before he died in 1988.
