Top Operations Research Voice on LinkedIn | Follow for OR, Python, Interviewing Content and More | All Opinions are my own
Worthwhile things in life tend to be competitive. Examples include admission into top universities, receiving good job offers, and becoming a professional athlete. These things being ultra competitive does NOT mean life or "the system" is broken. If a lot more people want these things than there are spots available, then qualified people are going to miss out. It's unfortunate for the people that miss out, but that's just the reality. The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) campus can't hold all 80,000+ undergraduate applicants. An NBA roster can't hold 100 players. When a company has a job opening for 1 data scientist, they probably don't have the budget to hire 300. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to pursue these avenues though. There is a reason why a lot of people go after these kinds of opportunities. Furthermore, what's the solution? Should all of these things just be a pure random lottery? How do you feel about pursuing competitive things? Do you think they are worthwhile? Let me know in the comments down below! ---------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to see more content like this, or content related to the following: ✅ optimization/operations research ✅ data science ✅ job searching/interviewing ✅ my hot takes #datascience #career #linkedin
