Here are the main outcomes: 💡 Citizen Participation is Essential for Modern Urban Development: The event underscored the importance of citizen participation as a fundamental component of contemporary city planning and regional development. Active involvement of citizens leads to more vibrant, responsive, and sustainable communities. 💡Effective Participation Requires a Mix of Digital and Offline Formats: Speakers emphasized the need for a balanced approach that integrates both digital and offline participation formats. While digital platforms increase accessibility and convenience, offline interactions foster deeper connections and trust. 💡Trust and Transparency are Crucial for Successful Implementation: Participants highlighted that for citizen participation to be truly effective, people must trust that their suggestions will be heard and implemented. Transparency in the decision-making process is essential to build and maintain this trust. The event featured lively discussions and allowed attendees to engage directly with our expert speakers. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore best practices and share perspectives on enhancing citizen participation. Today, as part of the Smart City for Young Generations European Union co-funded project, an international meeting took place online. The meeting aimed to discuss the progress and future plans of the project, which aims to create smart cities that cater to the needs of young people. Representatives from our project consortium participated in the meeting, sharing their experiences and insights on smart city initiatives. We discussed the importance of utilizing innovative technologies and sustainable practices to build cities that are not only technologically advanced but also environmentally friendly. Project Partners also discussed the challenges faced in implementing smart city projects, such as the need for adequate infrastructure and the importance of citizen engagement. We emphasized the importance of involving young people in the decision-making process to ensure that their needs and aspirations are taken into account. The meeting provided a platform for exchanging ideas and best practices among project partners. It highlighted the commitment of the European Union and its member states to creating smart cities that prioritize the well-being and future of young generations. The project will continue to work towards its goals and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of smart city initiatives across Europe. 🌍 As CommuniCity prepares for its Third Round of Open Calls, let's delve into the process and what it entails! 🗓️ Running from February through May, the project extends invitations to cities and associations to join. Their pivotal role lies in identifying urgent urban and social challenges suitable for resolution through innovative technologies. 🌟 💡 Come June, CommuniCity partnering cities will collaborate with incoming participants, guiding them in pinpointing challenges that particularly affect marginalized communities. 🌃 July- August marks the final touches of the Third Open Call preparations and of the proposed challenges.   📍From September 10th, the open call kicks off, beckoning tech companies, associations, and providers to join forces and contribute to transformative change. 🧐 📍Applications are open until OCTOBER 31ST 17 CET 2024 🔍Evaluation of the applications by the Jury Members will take place from 9 to 17th November. 📩In the period from 19 to 21st November Piloting teams will receive their scores. 📍On 22nd November the Evaluation phase ends, so from late November through May 2025, it's all about piloting those groundbreaking ideas! 🌟 ❗️Become an integral part of this transformative journey in urban innovation. Thanks to our Lead Expert, Ian Graham, last year’s Baseline Study and Network Roadmap for the Digi-Inclusion Network is also now available on the network’s webpage! 🎉   By downloading it, you will learn further about:   🔹 The Digi-Inclusion Network, which consists of nine project partners (PPs) – five city/municipality partners and four non-city partners. This partnership benefits from geographical and cultural diversity and it includes one partner from an IPA (Instrument for Pre-Accession) country. 🌍   🔹 An overview on the Policy Context of the EU regarding digitalization as a core policy of the EU, in order to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life of cizens. Yet, this accelerated digital transiton across Europe is creating societal imbalances, affecing both those who are excluded already, and also creating newly excluded groups, that is "digital divide”. 💻   🔹 A synthesis of the key points idenfied in the Digi-Inclusion baseline process that help to shape the network methodology and network roadmap as well as the methodology and roadmap themselves. 🇲🇽The story describes Mexico City, one of the largest and most diverse cities in the world, and its urban challenges, such as inequality and political distrust. To address these issues, the Laboratorio para la Ciudad was created in 2013 under the leadership of Gabriella Gomez-Mont. The Lab, part of the government but composed of people from diverse backgrounds, aims to solve urban problems with creative and participatory methods. 🏞️The Laboratory aims to transform the city into a “mega-urban laboratory,” fostering collaboration between civil society and the government. It supports collaborative, cooperative, and circular economies, promoting social cohesion, resilience, and sustainability. 🎟️It promotes open access to technology and digital infrastructure, facilitating the participation of marginalized communities. 〰 Gated communities | #academicjournal #gatedcommunities #digitalcommunities #communicationdesign From the series... "new year, old me"! :) I have lovely news from the Polish Publisher Libron. The article, which is a result of my research on gated communities and e-neighbourhood relations, has been eventually published! The book is full of interesting investigations of my dear professors from #communicationdesign studies from #Poland. Among many topics, they write about transformation design, proxemics, user experiences, data visualizations or strategic communications, etc.    I truly feel honoured that my research found its place together with people, who first inspired me to knowledge about design, and its social relations in different spatial settings. I am grateful to my supervisor Kamil Olender professor Michael Fleischer for being the best support when researching gated communities in my city #wroclaw. 🏢  But... talking about the reality of #gatedcommunities and new  #residentialdevelopments in Poland. It is a very controversial and hot topic in my country. Maybe some investors stopped putting fences around buildings but we still face more serious problems. I will list just a few of them: selling micro-apartments (flats that are smaller than 25m²), interesting floor-planning where most of the space occupies a corridor, lack of sunlight or bad ventilation. It also concerns common spaces that these new neighbourhoods lack. They lack privacy, greenery, or playgrounds. As you can imagine the flats cost an enormous amount of money (around 2000 euro for m² in Warsaw in 2023!), and mostly are made of poor materials. In Poland, young activists introduced a new term called #patodeweloperka which ideally describes these abnormal living conditions, desocialising us from our neighbours and enhancing a depressing sense of exclusion and indivisualism which we have observed recently in all our cities.    The #socialeffect of relations in such neighbourhoods I described in my article.
