In this video, I will discuss the critical role defense diplomacy plays in conflict prevention and its function in strengthening inter-state relations. WHAT IS SMART POWER IN INTELLIGENCE? According to Chester A. Crocker, smart power "involves the strategic use of diplomacy, persuasion, capacity building, and the projection of power and influence in ways that are cost-effective and have political and social legitimacy" – essentially the engagement of both military force and all forms of diplomacy.

❝Covert war has become overt war, limiting the room for manoeuvre of political leaders.❞ Recent days have seen already elevated tensions in the Middle East reach a new fever pitch. As global leaders appeal for restraint and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza continues, it remains unclear how the situation will develop. In the midst of these various crises, does diplomacy have any weight? Can it prevail over military force to prevent the region being engulfed in an all-out war?
