Dear Colleagues, A recent publication in the American Journal of Case Reports by authors from the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA, highlights the successful extraction of an embolized iliac vein stent from the right heart via a surgical approach. This case report emphasizes the importance of considering alternative methods when percutaneous retrieval fails. With an estimated incidence of 1% to 3%, embolization of peripheral venous stents remains a feared complication. The findings suggest that the surgical approach can be feasible without requiring tricuspid valve repair or replacement. The complete report is now available on the American Journal of Case Reports webpage. | https://lnkd.in/dv6n_2WJ

Case of the Week: This week's case comes from Dr. Thomas Auen (PGY3), Dr. Nila Jones (PGY2), and Dr. Benjamin Swanson (Associate Professor) at University of Nebraska Medical Center. It involves a 71-year-old male with extensive past medical history including severe peripheral vascular disease, alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis, nicotine dependence, history of deep vein thrombosis, and atrial fibrillation. Medical autopsy revealed the following gross heart findings, with roughened pericardium and adhesions to the surface. Microscopic examination of the anterior and septal region of the left ventricle are shown in subsequent images at 20x and 100x magnification. Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to share a recent publication from the American Journal of Case Reports by authors from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Third Affiliated Hospital, Beijing, China, that sheds light on a rare case of duplicate inferior vena cava (IVC) accompanied by deep venous thrombosis (DVT). The report discusses the optimal treatment plan, determined through thorough imaging examination and venography. It highlights the patient's successful treatment by strategically placing only one filter in the left IVC, resulting in safe thrombolysis and aspiration without the risk of pulmonary embolism. This case report emphasizes the importance of comprehensive consideration for successful endovascular intervention in emergencies. The complete report is now available on the American Journal of Case Reports webpage. | https://lnkd.in/dNbNMHxX
