NZMBA Strengthens Ties with Australian Consul-General In a recent meeting, the NZ Malaysia Business Association Inc (NZMBA) took significant steps to enhance its networking reach within the Asia-Pacific region. Dave Ananth, President of NZMBA, along with Secretary Pam Louis and Treasurer Roshidah Mangnall, met with Brad Williams, the Australian Consul-General and Senior Trade Commissioner, for an engaging discussion over coffee. The key focus of the meeting was on expanding networking opportunities, especially in light of Malaysia's upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025. The NZMBA leaders emphasized the importance of fostering strong business relationships and collaborative efforts across borders to support economic growth and development in the region. This year, Samoa is the host country and the meeting, a business forum and side meetings will take place from 21 to 26 October 2024. The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 equal and independent countries from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe and the Pacific. Singapore is a member. The Commonwealth is not a talking shop. It is a force for good, building bridges to connect diverse peoples, sharing expertise and fostering mutually beneficial academic and business collaborations. Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) is a commercial, not-for-profit, membership organization with a mandate to use the convening power and trusted network of The Commonwealth to facilitate trade and investment across the 56 member countries. Recently, an introductory luncheon was held in Auckland with His Excellency Makoto Osawa, the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand, and Sota Kamihiro, the First Secretary in charge of economic affairs. The European Chamber of Commerce in Việt Nam (EuroCham) released its 2024 Whitebook on Tuesday in Hà Nội. According to EuroCham, the release aims to bring together key stakeholders to bridge commerce and policy, while offering insights from the European business community on Việt Nam's business policy. Speaking at the event, Chairman of EuroCham in Việt Nam Gabor Fluit said the Southeast Asian country has worked diligently to develop its economy, generating new jobs, developing new industries and improving livelihoods nationwide. He highlighted the importance of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which has played a crucial role in boosting bilateral trade between Việt Nam and the EU, bringing total trade volume from US$57.81 billion in 2019 to $66.78 billion in 2022, a 15 per cent increase. Investors from European companies are also more confident now about doing business in Việt Nam. According to the EuroCham Business Confidence Index, 31 per cent of EuroCham members now rank Việt Nam among their top three global investment destinations. “Throughout the years, Việt Nam has been an important partner of the EU when it comes to economic issues, digital transformation and the green transition, in addition to regional security and stability.
