A significant issue that many physicians face today is the isolation that can come from running a private practice. As you know, this isolation can lead to stress, burnout, and may even impact the quality of patient care.
What if there was a better way? At CenterWell Senior Primary Care we believe we have one.
*Collaborative Environment: At CenterWell, we foster a collaborative environment where you work together, share insights, and learn from each other. No more isolation!
*Integrated Care Teams: Our Care Team Model integrates doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals into one cohesive unit. This means less administrative work for physicians and more time to focus on patient care.

Shoutout to the Team Leaders at Tashacare Australia who are doing a wonderful job in completing their roles as Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Pathologists but also work in empowering their team members to grow and excel in their roles!
In addition to weekly supervision, our team leaders do the following to support the development of skills among their team members.
1. Develop individualized Professional development plans: The team leaders discuss the goals with each individual member and create specific development plans. They are able to provide guidance and resources tailored to each person's needs.
2. Providing constructive feedback: Whether it's praising a team member's clinical decision-making during a challenging case or offering guidance on how to streamline administrative processes, effective feedback helps team members understand where they excel and where they can improve.
3. Leading by example: They demonstrate the skills and behaviours they want to see in their team members, whether it's delivering excellent client care, effectively managing administrative tasks, or communicating with different stakeholders. By modeling these behaviours, team leaders inspire their team members to emulate them and strive for excellence in their work.

John D. Couris' perspective on prioritizing team members over patients in healthcare leadership advances a refreshing and non-traditional approach to the industry. His belief that by focusing on the well-being and needs of the team, the ultimate beneficiary will be the patient challenges the traditional notion that putting the patient first is the most effective strategy.
The four core leadership principles outlined by Mr. Couris – authenticity, transparency, kindness, and vulnerability – offer a compelling framework for cultivating a positive and engaged work environment. Leading with authenticity allows for genuine connections between leaders and team members, fostering a sense of trust and rapport. As described by Couris, Transparency builds trust and involves the team in the decision-making process, creating a more inclusive and informed workplace.
The emphasis on kindness as a critical leadership trait is noteworthy. Treating team members with compassion, love, respect, and empathy in an industry as demanding and crucial as healthcare will contribute to a healthier workplace culture. This approach recognizes the humanity of each individual, acknowledging their worth beyond their professional roles.
Moreover, the call for leaders to lead with vulnerability is a brave departure from traditional leadership models. By acknowledging mistakes and seeking help, leaders can create an atmosphere of openness and continuous improvement. This willingness to show vulnerability is authentic and encourages a culture of learning and innovation.
The positive outcomes reported by Mr. Couris, including significant improvements in team member engagement scores, underscore the effectiveness of this leadership approach. The focus on creating a workplace where team members feel valued, connected, and safe to express their opinions and take risks is likely to have a ripple effect on the quality of patient care.
While Mr. Couris acknowledges that this approach may be met with skepticism, his willingness to question the status quo and boldly champion a new strategy is laudable. As the healthcare industry grapples with patient satisfaction, quality, and cost challenges, leaders like Mr. Couris provide a valuable perspective that could inspire positive change and innovation in healthcare leadership practices.

I had a great time talking to Becker's Laura Dyrda about the value of putting team members first. I would love to hear your thoughts on what I had to say.
