Canada Day is a national holiday celebrating the country's independence from Great Britain in 1867. The new nation, still loyal to Great Britain, was called the Dominion of Canada and consisted of only four provinces ((Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec). Thought I would share some fun facts. • Canada is the second-largest country in the world. • One of the longest highways in the world is in Canada. • Churchill, Manitoba, is the "Polar Bear Capital of the World." • Canada crosses six time zones. • Canada has the longest coastline of any country. • Canada is the world's largest producer of maple syrup. • Canadian national sports are Lacrosse and Hockey • The name "Canada" has indigenous roots. It comes from the word kanata, meaning "village" or "settlement • The beaver is Canada's national animal. Canada is rich in wildlife like grizzly bears, moose, cougars, elk & black bears • The telephone & basketball was invented in Canada. The key reason for starting my post corporate-world journey in Northeast India was that most Indians knew so little about the region, and many of those who had some familiarity carried wrong or outdated perception of the land. Anvayins ('un-wines' for those who still struggle to pronounce the name), a Sanskrit word that means belonging to a family was born to make a token contribution to familiarize people with our Northeastern family. So it was a sense of deja-vu when we added Central Asia to our portfolio, another relatively lesser known region. The suffix 'stan' attached to the five countries comprising it generated its own connotation. Just as in the case of Northeast India where many could not name the states comprising it or their capitals, many aren't familiar with the five countries that form Central Asia. Within Northeast India, each state has something unique to offer - the archeological wonders of Tripura, historical richness of Manipur and Nagaland for their association with the Second World War, natural formations of Meghalaya, solitude of Arunachal Pradesh with a population density of 17 (India is 430+), each country in Central Asia has its own highlight - the art, architecture and handicraft of Uzbekistan, lakes and mountain passes of Kyrgyzstan, nature trails and historical landmarks of Kazakhstan with a population density of 6! And for me personally, the most satisfying thread common to both the regions is that there is still so much more to discover and share. What more can an explorer ask for! https://lnkd.in/dnGeUJWK #anvayins #kazakhstan #centralasia
When I thought of visiting Central Asia, the first country that came to mind was Kazakhstan. The largest country of Central Asia and also the 9th largest in the world, it has one of the lowest population density in the world - 6 (India is about 481). This vast country is renowned for its scenic beauty of steppe grasslands, majestic mountains, picturesque lakes, intriguing canyons and much more. Kazakhstan also has a rich history as it is inhabited by over one hundred and thirty different ethnic groups from various countries of the former Soviet Union. What more! Kazakhstan is easily accessible from India - Almaty is just about 3hrs away from Delhi and doesn't require a visa to enter the country for a stay upto 14 days. So why the wait?
