Just announced at #SuiBasecamp: Mysticeti, a new consensus protocol built for Sui which enables lower latency while supporting higher TPS more efficiently! Mysticeti is a byzantine consensus protocol that improves on the Narwhal-Bullshark consensus algorithm, giving Sui the potential to drastically reduce transaction latency and lower CPU requirements for validators. “We’ve implemented Mysticeti, and the experiments in a private environment, which mimics Mainnet stake distribution and workload, achieve ~390ms consensus commit latency. As far as we know, it translates to the fastest settlement finality one could achieve today," says Dmitri Perelman, Head of Engineering at Mysten Labs. Mysticeti is designed specifically for Sui, unifying its fast path and consensus – and with a consensus latency of 390 milliseconds, it could be the fastest ever reported at high throughputs for large-scale WAN consensus.
