Rethinking Clinical Trials in Oncology: Embracing Pragmatic Approaches Traditional randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in oncology often come with heavy monitoring, numerous assessments, and frequent follow-up visits. While essential for rigorous data, these demands can be overwhelming for participants, investigators, and sponsors alike. FDA believes that it's time to consider pragmatic clinical trials that mirror routine clinical practice more closely. These trials can streamline processes and focus on demonstrating efficacy with clear, straightforward endpoints like overall survival. For example, a critical question we should be asking is, "What is the median overall survival for patients with [specific type of cancer] treated with drug X versus drug Y?" By adopting pragmatic approaches, we can reduce the burden on all stakeholders while still obtaining valuable, real-world data. How is this possible? Let FDA know your two cents! I am proud to share that our Ph2a clinical proof-of-concept (PoC) study of the JM-010 combination of buspirone and zolmitriptan for Parkinson’s disease dyskinesia has been accepted for publication in Movement Disorders. In the study, treatment of Parkinson’s disease patients with the buspirone/zolmitriptan combination significantly reduced dyskinesia when compared to placebo. Importantly, the combination was well tolerated and no worsening of motor symptoms during ON-time was observed. The clinical PoC study adds additional evidence to the already existing preclinical evidence of a strong synergistic anti-dyskinetic effect of the buspirone and zolmitriptan combination, currently undergoing further investigation in our ongoing Ph2b clinical trial ASTORIA, for which we recently enrolled the last patient. #conterapharma #jm010 #clinicalpoc #movementdisorders #astoria Get to the early online version by following the link: https://lnkd.in/djgQZqHJ
