What will does AI mean for journalism? I'm looking forward to presenting a session on AI and Audio for the The Walkley Foundation for Journalism in a few weeks. It's a very practical approach to the issue. Yes, we look at the threats, opportunities and ethical considerations of AI for audio (namely radio and podcasting)...but we also look at some of the tools that are out there now and how to use them. And I promise, they are not to be feared! For me, AI is about efficiencies. Just don't lose your ethics or common sense in the process. Radio and podcasting is about storytelling and connection - and it's hard to have a meaningful connection with a bot. So I'm all about getting AI to do the mundane and tedious work. There are several sessions on AI and journalism being run for journalists and editors by the Walkley Foundation - and coordinated by Corinne Podger. This morning I spoke at the Nordic Journalism Education conference about how genAI can be used to address issues of systemic and cognitive bias in journalism, and lower barriers to access in the industry (including practical examples and tips).
