Attorney & Strategist for Emerging Tech: AI & Blockchain. |Helping Individuals, Startups and Corporations Prepare for the Future Ahead.
This is the third time this week I have seen this same point being raised. There is a popular quote attributed to Aristotle that says: "Those who tell the stories rule society." Joseph Nye, formerly of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, recaptured this idea in the following terms: "In an information age, it’s not just whose army wins, but whose story wins." It appears the media in Africa has yet to fully grasp the implications of these statements. Just like the concept of naming, I would argue that the power of narrative holds a profound ability to redefine reality itself. I am glad that conversations such as these are now receiving the attention they deserve I think I have a great strategy for this: What if we turn The Africa Opportunity platform into the biggest Black-owned YouTube channel on the planet? Every African—both at home and in the diaspora—with a smartphone who wants to witness Africa's progress could subscribe. Imagine a channel comparable to, or even bigger than, MrBeast with a dual aim: showcasing what Africa has to offer the world in terms of thought and action on the continent, and channeling all revenue generated into building startup hubs across the continent, like Mr. Pascal Murasira is already doing in Rwanda?

Africa has a $4.2B Media Problem 📰Western media’s negative portrayal costs Africa $4.2 billion each year, holding back investment and opportunity. It’s time to flip the script and spotlight Africa’s true potential. This is one particular area that I am very interested in: How to transform The Africa Opportunity (media and events) into a platform to convey positive stories about Africa, mainly targeting the western audience. If you have idea on how to make this possible, let’s have a chat. Let’s change the narrative. #AfricaRising #PositiveMedia #AfricaOpportunity #Impact Source - Business Insider

My husband, inspired by #hardestgeezer running the length of Africa, persuaded my 13 year old son to travel with him to Tunisia last weekend to join Russ for his final 50Km run. The whole event has been an inspiration to so many and it has got me thinking: Why has Russ captured the hearts of so many? While several individuals are undertaking similar mammoth African runs, there's something unique about Russ' ability to connect with a global audience. Here's what I believe sets him apart: Millennial Mindset: At 27, Russ resonates with his audience, many of whom (as evidenced by the Tunisian supporters) are in the same age group. They're all part of the generation that thrives on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. Engagement Expertise: Russ and his team understand the art of audience engagement. They consistently create content that resonates with their followers. Early Investment in Quality: Russ recognized the power of high-quality video production early on and assembled a talented team to capture his journey. Building Momentum: He didn't achieve overnight success. Russ began this adventure years ago, gradually building a loyal audience. The Takeaway: There's no shortcut to becoming a social media sensation. It takes dedication, time, and a willingness to learn from younger generations who understand the power of these platforms. #hardestgeezer #inspiration #africanadventure What are your thoughts on building a strong social media presence?
