GB and European decarbonisation efforts require expanded electrification of the heating and transport sectors and continued expansion of low carbon electricity generating technologies. Flexibility services will be crucial to enabling these two strands of decarbonisation policy to delivered together. I am looking forward to discussing this vital area for energy policy on the 16th.
Join us on February 16th, 2024, at 11:30am GMT / 12:30pm CET for the third webinar in our Market Design series: Incentivising flexibility for the electricity transmission system. 💻 Electricity systems need to be balanced second by second. Do we need (more) investment signals for providers of system flexibility? What instruments do we have, and which ones work well? In this webinar we'll shed some light on these questions by discussing the relevant considerations, presenting insights and hearing the perspectives of industry experts. Our panellists will be: • Marion Labatut , EU Affairs Director at EDF • Jochen Schwill, Founder and Manging Director of Spot My Energy GmbH and founder of the German digital utility Next Kraftwerke • TBA, National Grid ESO We look forward to having you join us.✨ 📌 Click here to register: https://okt.to/Hj5RsW #ElectricityTransmission #EUEnergy

Germany’s Electricity Network Development Plan (NDP) 2037/2045 outlines a major expansion of power grids, as well as hydrogen, and CO2 pipelines. However, these proposed projects face significant land use challenges. In our response to the draft scenario framework, SuperNode advocates for superconducting cable technology, which offers a high-capacity, space-efficient solution to grid expansion, crucial for Germany’s decarbonisation goals. 💡 As the pipeline of wind projects continues to grow, how do we ensure a grid designed for connecting customers with conventional generation can manage and connect variable sources? Blake Clough Consulting joined us last week, on Day 4 of our European Symposium in Aberdeen, to explain exactly how. Blake Clough is a consultancy which focuses on electricity networks, offering support to network operators and regulators and helping developers navigate the challenging grid connection and compliance phases of infrastructure projects. Tom Williams, Power Systems Consultant, presented to our delegates, highlighting: ➡ The potential of interlinked and networked offshore transmission systems. Though this requires developers to be coordinated from the start of a project, studies have shown that benefits may outweigh costs by a ratio of 2 to 1. ➡ Networked offshore systems reduce curtailment, increase reliability and reduce the need for more expensive generators. ➡ An overview of NGESO’s holistic network design, which is preparing to connect 23 GW of offshore wind supply to the UK’s National Grid. We would like to thank Blake Clough Consulting, not just for providing the integral financial support needed ensure our symposia can run, but also for their thought-provoking perspectives on managing the challenges facing the UK’s grid infrastructure. #OffshoreWind #ElectricityNetworks #Innovation #INORE #Collaboration Interested in sponsoring or collaborating on next year's INORE events? The Rewiring the Nation scheme is set to boost investment in new #transmission assets as per the Australian Energy Market Operator's (AEMO) 2022 Integrated System Plan (ISP). The plan outlines a 30-year #investment strategy for the National Electricity Market (NEM). According to AEMO's projections, the grid will require 10,000 kilometres of transmission lines by 2050. For such a capital-intensive industry, predictive maintenance will bring significant operational cost efficiencies. #RewiringTheNation #EnergyInvestment #AEMO #ElectricityMarket #InfrastructureInvestment

❗ ICYMI: deploying innovative grid technologies, like #DynamicLineRatings, can increase grid capacity by up to 20-40%. A study from CurrENT Europe, Compass Lexecon, and supported by Breakthrough Energy , is the first of its kind at a European level; findings include: 📈 Transmission grid buildout may need to increase 20x (500km/year to 10,000km/year) to support the #EnergyTransition 🔌 Transmission grid expansion could be accelerated by 5-8 years with innovative grid technologies, even with reasonably conservative deployment 💰 Installing innovative grid technologies could reduce the need for conventional network buildout by ~35%, saving €700B by 2040 ➡ Read the full study: https://lnkd.in/gfSNiNNj ➡ Learn more about how our DLR has helped National Grid UK reduce low carbon generation in England and Wales: https://lnkd.in/gxfzdfhp

As electric utilities grapple with the urgent need to decarbonize and transition to renewable energy sources, the pressure to modernize outdated power grids has never been greater. The push from government mandates and regulatory bodies to reduce fossil fuel dependence and electrify society is driving a transformative shift in the energy sector. Central to this transition is the need for a modernized grid, equipped with advanced communications infrastructure to handle increased data and connectivity demands. Among the emerging solutions, the adoption of private LTE (PLTE) networks stands out, offering utilities a robust, flexible, and secure framework to enhance grid visibility, control, and resilience in a rapidly evolving landscape. Take a look at this article to learn more!

Integrated grid planning in the US would advance the economy, cut energy costs, and reduce pollution. Great to see Europe thinking about building a resilient system that brings together energy resources across borders.
ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, has released the draft list of projects for assessment in the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) 2024. This plan aims to address infrastructure gaps and enhance Europe's electricity system. The draft TYNDP 2024 includes 176 transmission projects and 33 storage projects, identified through a two-year process involving scenario development and cost-benefit analysis. You can explore the draft projects via an interactive map at this link: https://lnkd.in/e-8SEQg8. The final scenarios will be published in April 2024, followed by the System Needs Study and cost-benefit analysis results later in the year. ENTSO-E and its 40 member Transmission System Operators are pivotal in this effort to build a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Europe. #EuropeanEnergy #Sustainability #ElectricityTransmission #RenewableEnergy
