Euro 2024 Semi-Finals Predictions! 🏆 We are at the business end of UEFA EURO 2024 and it's fair to say the excitement and nerves are building! (especially behind enemy lines) We've successfully predicted three out of the four quarter-final games, with the only miss being Spain's last-minute win over Germany.. Football remains unpredictable!! I personally hope we continue our success rate. There has been much debate in recent years about whether a greater concentration of market shares in various industries may reflect a loss of competition. In this article, Kristofer Hammarbäck, Max Mirtschink and I explore how greater concentration of market shares may be the result of globalisation allowing the strongest competitors to go head to head. We do this by looking at how changes in transfer rules and tournament design affected team performance over time in the UEFA Champions League. We find that removal of trade barriers may not only result in greater concentration of performance but also that these stronger competitors face stronger competition from each other. Fewer but stronger competitors may therefore lead to more rather than less intense competition. You can find the article here: https://lnkd.in/d5UUrtQe

Some clubs' defensive work just doesn't pass the eye test. Now that the '23/'24 campaign is complete for UEFA's Big 5 leagues, we've used data to see which clubs don't pass the statistical test too. This is the first part of an analysis of defensive underperformers in Europe. Part 2 will feature a tactical analysis on the topic, looking at specific trends from the defensive underperformers. Insightful analysis on build up trends in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Below are a few key metrics as it relates to accurately measuring successful build-ups and its characteristics among winning teams. Key Trends: - Teams who completed more defensive line breaks (ball behind the last line) won 68% of their matches - Finalist of 2022 World Cup (Spain & England) - completed 67% of their attempted defensive line breaks (ball behind the last line) than all other teams (63%) - Finalist of 2019 World Cup (USA & Netherlands) - completed 74% of their attempted line breaks while other teams averaged just 60% Best teams are more successful at completing defensive line breaks (ball behind the last line). https://lnkd.in/e6SzAJav
