“You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know.” - William Wilberforce. Following the efforts of 1807, slavery was finally abolished in 1833 and made illegal by the Human Rights Act of 1998. However, despite these advancements, modern slavery persists. In 2021, an estimated 50 million people were living in situations of modern slavery according to the Global estimate for modern slavery. Approximately 27.6 million of those people were in forced labour and 22 million in forced marriages. What action can you take can we collectively take to prevent this? ✅ Report such acts to authorities or relevant organizations. ✅ Do not engage the services of underage children or individuals in exploitative conditions. ✅ Ensure fair compensation for workers based on their labor worth. ✅ Stay informed about the signs and forms of modern slavery. ♻️Share and follow for more Sources: 🎥 The Scottish Parliament 📈Walk Free #modernslavery #governance #politics

We often unintentionally divide our city. Excerpt from a recent appearance on the People’s Voice DC with Michael Campbell and Chris Otten: We need to be very careful about how we discuss individual Wards in DC. We frequently use divisive language, framing issues as ward against ward instead of uniting all wards as one city. What benefits one ward benefits the next. It’s crucial to ensure that all wards receive equal treatment. Every resident, every neighborhood, every ward, and DC as a whole needs adequate medical treatment, affordable housing, grocery stores, and sensible transit.
