🔗 Understanding Substance Abuse in Youth: Let’s Start the Conversation 🔗 Substance abuse among youth is a growing crisis that demands our attention. As someone who has witnessed the devastating effects of addiction firsthand, I’ve written a blog to raise awareness, share insights, and discuss prevention strategies for young people at risk. It’s time for families, educators, and communities to come together and offer more support and guidance to our youth before it’s too late. 🛑 Click the link to read the full blog and let’s talk about how we can make a positive impact together: [https://shorturl.at/HyK0J] "We don't choose to become addicted. We choose to deny our pain." — Anonymous #SubstanceAbusePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthWellness

It is also Substance Use Prevention Month! During Substance Abuse Prevention Month, it’s essential to highlight the connection between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and substance use. ACEs, such as trauma, abuse, or neglect, can significantly increase the risk of substance abuse later in life as individuals may turn to substances to cope with unresolved pain. By addressing ACEs early through trauma-informed care and support, we can help prevent substance use disorders and promote healthier, more resilient individuals and communities. Prevention starts with healing the wounds of childhood. #ChildrensMentalHealthAdvocate #ACEsAwareness #SubstanceAbusePrevention #HealTheWounds #TraumaInformedCare #PreventionThroughHealing #BreakTheCycle #ResilientCommunities #HealthyFutures #SupportAndHeal #PreventionStartsNow www.JameelahHanif.com

The first step toward change is awareness. Breaking free from the chains of substance abuse begins with understanding its devastating toll. Substance abuse isn't merely an individual's escape but a societal challenge. Through empathy, education, and support, we can rewrite the narrative of addiction and guide those in need toward the path of healing and hope. Let's foster a community where compassion reigns, where individuals find the courage to confront their challenges head-on and seek a path to recovery. Together, let's cultivate an environment where healing is not just a possibility but a reality waiting to be embraced. #Awareness #AddictionRecovery #CommunitySupport #SubstanceAbuse #RotaractSSCBS #DU #RotaryinAction #Rotary #RID3012 #RotaractDistrict3012 #PeopleofAction #ServicebeyondSelf #RotaryInternational

Spotting domestic abuse in your life can be incredibly difficult particularly if you’ve lived with it as a child. Read Lisa's story below... “ You’re useless and you’ll never amount to anything…” My Dad. My Dad was emotionally and psychologically abusive to my mum, myself and my sister but because he was aggressive but never physically violent we didn’t label it as abuse. Instead we often felt we were to blame because we were just not good enough, fast enough, clever enough, quiet enough to meet his needs. Despite not having contact with him for more than 25 years, the fear and shame of not being good enough has followed me into my adult life. Up until I started to work on Get Out Get Love, I didn’t realise how much the abuse and the coping mechanisms I developed to deal with it were still affecting my confidence, self-concept and limiting my ambitions. Working with Get Out Get Love and doing the programme myself has helped me begin to address this. It’s been a long road to realisation, and I have only just started my personal recovery journey, but I wanted to say there is hope, you can remove the impact of abuse from your life. The first step is to NOTICE and NAME it. We built a free relationship assessment tool to help you do this, you’ll find it on our home page: https://lnkd.in/e8P9iH5B #domesticabuser #domesticabuserecovery

Trigger warning: Themes of relationship abuse/domestic abuse In January last year 15-year-old Holly Newton was stalked and then murdered by her teenage ex-boyfriend. She was too young to be classed as a victim of domestic violence but her family believes her death should be recognised as such in order to help save young lives in the future. Holly Newton's tragic story sheds light on a critical issue: domestic abuse isn't officially acknowledged for those under 18. Abuse doesn't begin at age 18—it can affect anyone, regardless of age. In fact, young people between 16 and 19 are at the highest risk of relationship abuse. Holly's ex-boyfriend displayed clear signs of controlling and harmful behaviour, including isolating her from friends, tracking her movements, and emotionally manipulating her. Without proper education on relationship abuse, these warning signs can easily go unnoticed. It's crucial that we engage young people in conversations about healthy relationships and acknowledge that relationship abuse can impact them too. Head to The Wellbeing Hub for resources around understanding coercive control & abuse. #TheWellbeingHub #KnowTheSigns #DomesticAbuse #CoerciveControl #RelationshipAbuse #TeenageMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #AbuseAwareness
