"I joined SB Finance (SBF) around a year and a half ago, thinking my job would primarily involve handling payments. Good news alert! After a record January with 8 deals done, Feb has been another stellar month for our Newport office. I had 4 applications sanctioned and two completed, so hoping for an equally positive March now. Equally, my ‘Thirst Wednesday Wine Club’ in Abergavenny had its biggest turnout in Feb with over 25 guests. And we’re looking like we’ll equal that again this month…. We recently met for our latest Experience Bank peer group for aspiring and existing Trustee’s, NEDs, Board Advisors and Consultants at Board Level. We had a great turnout with a 13 strong team of attendees, and we quickly got to work getting our teeth into real-time challenges, questions and topics to improve our performance in the board room. We welcomed another new member, Leanne and evaluated all of our sign in scores checking in on each of our wellbeing, business performance and effectiveness. then listened to, giving feedback, to one of the cohorts pitch decks who is looking for seed funding. Only after giving our feedback did they share that it had been successful, and we were all delighted. Our feedback will not go to waste though as there will be a second funding round soon which may prove harder so the shared insights was much appreciated. We then split into two groups, one looking at a new proposition a cohort member had to health check its viability, and the other looking at what we offer as NEDs and can realistically charge. That one created a great debate and feedback. We then gave support to one of the cohort who will soon be chairing a round table meeting, giving hints, tips and talking through good meeting chairing skills. Finally, Andrew Marsh has us all agree to write and commit to statements on intent on how we will be feeling and what we will have individually achieved by the end of this year. I can’t wait for next month to hear what everyone is committing to! We do have a short waiting list to join the Experience Bank peer group for aspiring and existing Trustee’s, NEDs, Board Advisors and Consultants at Board Level. 3 months into Start it Accelerate | @KBC What a ride it has been so far! My key take away’s? A lot, here are the main ones.👇 -Shareholder agreements and negotiations Do not give away to much shares in early phases. Seed and pre-seed max 20%. Take time to negotiate since this will have a major impact in further stages. -Network The network always wins, was something I was thought a lot. And during my first 3 months in start it, this was taken to a whole other level! I was able to attend some very interesting and high level network events with truly fruitful conversations and insights. -The 7 commandments of pitching Here are some: put in a smile, ask for what you want and be specific!😊🎯 -For everyone that’s starting a business and takes this seriously. Surround yourself with people that challenge you, that are pushing your limits, and that can open doors.  But also that can ask you the right questions and that are helping to get your head straights in challenging times. For me that’s exactly what start-it KBC has done so far.  I’m confident this is only the beginning and more will come.
