Seminaries and theological schools face unique challenges in today’s shifting educational landscape. With declining enrollments, financial strain, and increasing mergers or closures, how can institutions navigate these difficult realities while honoring their mission and legacy? The In Trust Center for Theological Schools explored these critical topics in an article and webinar featuring insights from experts at Design Group International and The Stevens & Lee Companies. They identified key signs of sustainability, plans for closure or restructuring, and priority of mission fulfillment. As they emphasized, finishing well isn’t just about closure—it’s about honoring the institution’s faith-filled mission and securing its enduring legacy. An interesting insight into the experience of a new VC. HE leadership is tough and decision-making is complex, especially in the times of the crisis this sector is currently facing. It's lovely to see such a candid account. #HE #leadership https://lnkd.in/eG593BzJ

In Scott Carlson's The Chronicle of Higher Education newsletter, Chuck Ambrose, senior education consultant at Husch Blackwell and author of the book, "Colleges on the Brink: The Case for Financial Exigency" highlighted a key consideration for college leadership: “You’ve got to be willing to say things and take stands. This question about neutrality cannot be applied to the value of college and its impact on social, educational, and certainly economic mobility for the students we serve.” Explore more insights on the evolving demands of college leadership: https://lnkd.in/gn9njFJz #HigherEd #Leadership #StudentSuccess

The reality is Cabrini's closure is not Helen's fault. One needs to look to the executive team in place for the decade prior and examine their missteps and mindsets to really understand how Cabrini got to the point of closure. Here are other questions we as an industry need to ask: What happens to the members of the executive team(s) who brought Cabrini to this point, prior to Helen's arrival? (Besides nothing.) How should they be held accountable to the families of the faculty and staff who are now going to be unemployed? These are not trivial questions, but they WILL be ignored by many higher education leaders. These questions one day will be asked and answered in courts of law. My question to current private college and university presidents is: What will you do then? https://lnkd.in/eJTAGegp #highered #higheredleadership #leadership
