💥 It's International Women's Day and like every other day of the year Rosa will be championing women's and girls' organisations. This is what we do 365 (or indeed 366!) days a year. 💥 Women’s and girls’ organisations are crucial to the fabric of our society. Crucial to us having good laws, good public policy, and good politics. These are the organisations that work tirelessly to tackle inequality, discrimination, and injustice. Every bit of progress in culture, law, policy, and practice in women’s and girls’ lives over the last 200 years has been pioneered by women and girls organising and mobilising. So much of what we take for granted now: equal pay legislation, support for women prisoners, domestic violence refuges, rape crisis helplines, reproductive support, childcare, maternity rights, pensions for part-time workers, or the simple right for women to have access to their own bank accounts – every single one of these has been fought for, won and sustained by the collective effort of women. We stand with women and girls and the organisations that support them and we hope you will support Rosa by donating on #iwd2024 https://bit.ly/3vXmRoH #IWD #investinwomen #accelerateprogress #inspireinclusion

Despite incredible progress, organizations supporting women and girls continue to receive a small fraction of the total charitable dollars directed to nonprofits in the U.S. This funding gap is a significant barrier for organizations striving to ensure that women—particularly Black women, Indigenous women, women of color, and transgender and gender-expansive individuals—achieve full equity and autonomy over their lives and bodies. On this #GivetoWomenandGirls Day, join us in driving progress toward a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Driven by Compassion: Settlement, Outreach & Client Support Worker | Specializing in Crisis Support & Multicultural Outreach for Vulnerable Communities
🌸 Honoring Mothers, Empowering Women 🌸 As we celebrate the incredible mothers in our lives this Mother's Day, it's essential to acknowledge that not all women have the privilege of safety and security. Violence against women continues to be a pervasive issue worldwide, affecting countless lives every day. This Mother's Day, let's not only celebrate but also advocate for the safety and well-being of all women, regardless of their circumstances. Social service workers play a crucial role in this fight. We provide support, guidance, and resources to survivors of domestic violence, helping them rebuild their lives and reclaim their independence. Our dedication and compassion make a profound difference in the lives of those in need. As we reflect on the significance of this day, let's also consider how we can unite our power and organizations working tirelessly to end violence against women. Whether it's through volunteering, donations, or simply raising awareness, every action counts. Together, let's create a world where all women can live free from fear and violence. Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mothers out there, and may we continue to strive for a brighter, safer future for women everywhere. 💐 #MothersDay #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #Genderbasedviolence

Founder & Executive Director, Cohort Sistas | Advancing racial & gender equity in doctoral education | Assistant Professor | Historian of race and medicine
14 anti-DEI bills have been passed in 12 states since 2023, shuttering DEI offices at colleges and universities across the country. Ironically, many of the public institutions that award the highest number of doctorates to Black women and other historically excluded groups — like the University of Florida, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Texas A&M University — are in states that have passed laws banning DEI offices, programs, and trainings. At every level of higher education, thousands of students now find themselves without the crucial support systems they need to navigate their degrees successfully. We’re at a critical crossroads. We can either lament the fall of DEI in higher education or take action. At Cohort Sistas, we’re leaning all the way in. As universities and companies choose to abandon their commitments to equity, we're taking the lead to provide the resources, mentorship, and community that research has shown increases doctoral retention and completion rates for women and students of color. We're determined to ensure that the reversal of policies advancing equity in higher ed doesn’t deepen the already significant racial gaps in doctoral education. Our "Together for Equity" campaign is a call to all who believe in the power of education and the importance of representation. Together, we can ensure that every scholar, no matter their background, has the support they need to succeed. Join us in this crucial work 🫱🏽🫲🏾 cohortsistas.org/together #CSTogether4Equity #CohortSistas #EquityInEducation #HigherEd #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion
🎓 Our "Together for Equity" campaign launches today, and we need your support now more than ever. Cohort Sistas has empowered hundreds of women and gender-expansive doctoral students of color to thrive in academia through mentorship and community. But with DEI initiatives facing rollbacks, our work is even more critical. By joining us, you're standing for equity and ensuring that historically underrepresented scholars, especially Black women and nonbinary scholars, receive the support they need to succeed. 💛 Make a lasting impact — donate today at cohortsistas.org/together. #CSTogether4Equity #CohortSistas

Last week we celebrated National Inclusion Week - a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces and communities. 🧡 As part of our ongoing commitment to making sustainable change that matters, our DE&I pillars focus on supporting individuals with disabilities, ethnic minority communities, and women in leadership—and we are proud to have supported several amazing causes that align with these values. 🔵 Sheffield Sports Commentaries We donated to help replace 30 digital receivers that provide commentary for blind and partially sighted football fans at Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United matches. 🔵 Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) Our donation is helping towards the salary of a helpline officer, ensuring that their free, confidential service continues to provide emotional support and counselling to vulnerable Muslim individuals in need. 🔵 Ruskin Mill Trust Our donation helped purchase apple pressing equipment, empowering young people with special educational needs and disabilities to make and sell apple juice, which not only raises funds but has created a strong sense of pride and ownership for participants. 🔵 Kidney Research UK We supported their work with a donation to fund year two of their HIDDEN-CKD model, focused on reducing kidney health inequalities in Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnicities, and socio-economically disadvantaged communities. It's amazing to see how these contributions are already making a difference. We remain committed to our DE&I initiatives and will continue supporting causes that build more inclusive communities! 💪🏽💡 #DEI #NationalInclusionWeek #SupportingCommunities #Accessibility #MentalHealth #Leadership #DiversityMatters #Inclusion #ThrowbackThursday

Many of Women First's partner organizations are led by young mothers who make difficult decisions daily. Limited funding means they often choose to pay themselves less so that a program is resourced, or to miss critical networking opportunities because funds don’t cover childcare. When grassroots groups account for the time participants spend on care work, they find it can be 10 times more than men. The mothers we work with schedule trainings around care responsibilities, sensitize men, and accommodate young children in training spaces. They are on the frontlines of every movement for social change globally. They are advocating to strengthen labor laws, reduce violence against women, and protect the environment - in other words, to transform their communities for the future. Join Women First and show mothers everywhere that you see them, love them, and celebrate them for all that they are.
