On October 1, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. 😉 🎈 🎉 🎉 This year is another important year for comprehensively deepening reform, a key year for achieving the goals and tasks of the "14th Five-Year Plan", and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National People's Congress and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. These time nodes together give rich significance to 2024. Looking back at this historical node, there have been so many long and difficult journeys, and the great leap of New China from standing up, getting rich, to becoming strong has proved the feasibility and superiority of the Chinese-style modernization path with eloquent facts.

In this International Institute for Strategic Studies article I outline China’s new strategy for ‘peaceful reunification’ that promotes cross-strait integration through bottom-up innovation and regional experimentation. This has created the ‘Kinmen Model’ 金门模式which helps explain Chinese Coast Guard incursions into Taiwan’s protected waters around Kinmen. ”The strategy’s development and implementation reflects the CCP’s continuing interest in ‘peaceful reunification’ while it modernises the PLA. This challenges arguments that the CCP no longer believes in ‘peaceful reunification’ and that an invasion is imminent. These integration proposals are medium- to long-term projects. The development of Fujian’s demonstration zone is in service of the CCP’s long-term goal of ‘basically achieving socialist modernisation’ by 2035. This suggests that unless China perceives a significant change in US policy, Taiwan’s position on independence or in the military balance across the Taiwan Strait, it will continue implementing its new ‘peaceful reunification’ strategy while modernising the PLA.”

"The various actors tasked with generating new ideas for cross-strait integration are connected by institutional relationships created to foster ‘innovative’ integration policies and a shared culture of experimentation. For example, the Fujian Provincial Market Regulatory Bureau collaborated with the State Administration for Market Regulation to standardise cross-strait industrial certification and regulatory standards. The provincial bureau conducted 38 pilot projects and established 119 new cross-strait common standards. This involved Xiamen’s Municipal Market Supervision Bureau and the Taiwan Standardisation Research Centre. Various PRC ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce, the TAO, the NDRC and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have also cooperated to deepen trade between Fujian and Taiwan. Officials form these relationships to devise new and innovative ways for furthering integration, portraying measures as ‘demonstration’ models. In just one year, the Fujian plan has fostered myriad vertical and horizontal relationships within the party-state that encourage innovative solutions to ‘peaceful reunification’."

The Vision of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind carries forward the same spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Both are rooted in traditional Chinese values such as "Be kind to your neighbor," "Seek amity through integrity," and "Promote harmony among all nations." Both attest to China's diplomatic tenets of self-confidence, self-reliance, justice, protection of the disadvantaged, and benevolence. Both demonstrate the broad vision of the Communist Party of China to contribute more to humanity. Both manifest China's firm resolve to follow the path of peaceful development. The Vision of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind is the most effective move to sustain, promote and upgrade the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in the new circumstances. The Vision captures the reality that all countries have a shared future and intertwined interests, and sets a new model of equality and coexistence for international relations. China believes that all countries, regardless of their size, strength and wealth, are equal members of the international community. They have common interests, common rights, and common responsibilities in international affairs. All countries should join hands to overcome challenges, achieve shared prosperity, build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world of lasting peace, universal security, and shared prosperity, and realize peaceful coexistence with greater security and prosperity for mankind. If only all Presidents could think this way. From President XII of China we hear this great wisdom. Thank you

This amazing sci-fi future China is building for its citizens, I so want this for us in the US too! If we don't drastically increase our industrial capacity and dramatically reduce the cost of building things in this country, this future will pass us by.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang stressed in his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE): Hosting the CIIE is an important measure for China to expand opening up & cooperation, representing China’s solemn commitment to the world. If the first CIIE was a one-way invitation from China to the world, then each subsequent edition has become a mutual commitment between China and the world, reflecting the shared aspiration for opening up & cooperation. As the trend of de-globalization is picking up, unilateralism & protectionism are notably on the rise, and world peace & development is confronted with instability & uncertainty; it is all the more important that we stay committed to, expand, and upgrade opening up and promote lasting peace, stability, development & prosperity.

One world, one dream for a shared future: U.S./China It is imperative that we find ways to maintain open dialogue, focusing on what I have called the "seven Cs" — maintaining communication, collaboration, cooperation, coordination and competition while avoiding confrontation and conflict. Only by understanding each other can the US and China avoid a fate worse than any 20th century conflict. https://lnkd.in/ghudFxtd
