Have you ever felt drained by networking and wondered if it’s all worth it? That was me not too long ago. I put my networking on hold—not because I didn’t have a plan, but because I needed a break. I started to question if the connections I was making would ever lead to referrals. Instead of pushing through, I decided to pause. Then, this week, I had a casual 1:1 Zoom call with another business owner. It wasn’t planned networking—just two professionals sharing challenges. But that one conversation reignited something for me and reminded me why I started in the first place. The lesson I learned? Taking a break isn’t quitting. It’s about stepping back, rethinking your approach, and returning with a clearer focus. So, I restarted my networking routine: ➡️ Weekly chats ➡️ Targeted outreach ➡️ Quality over quantity And when life (or a cold) tried to derail me again? I didn’t push harder—I adjusted. I felt more refreshed, more intentional, and, surprisingly, more productive. If you’re questioning your networking plan, don’t just push through. Take a step back, reframe, and reach out if you need help creating a more focused approach.

😒 Networking Nightmares: How to Avoid Being the "Can't-Escape-This-Conversation" Colleague Ever feel like you're trapped at a networking event, stuck in a conversation that's drier than a day-old bagel? We've all been there. But fear not, fellow professionals! Here's your survival guide to conquering the cocktail party conundrum: - Ditch the Elevator Pitch: No one wants a robotic monologue. Be genuine, ask questions, and find common ground. You're building connections, not launching a rocket. - Escape the Small Talk Vortex: "The weather is nice..." Yawn. Have some conversation starters in your back pocket. "What are you most excited about in your field right now?" is way more engaging. - The Art of the Exit: Feeling the awkward silence creep in? Thank them for their time, casually mention you need to "mingle," and politely excuse yourself. No need for a James Bond-style escape route. *Bonus Tip: Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself! A little self-deprecating humour can break the ice and make you instantly more relatable.* 📍 Share your networking horror stories (or triumphs!) in the comments! Let's turn these awkward encounters into career-boosting connections. #networkingtips #careerdevelopment #professionaldevelopment

Make yourself completely available (for the right people) by holding meetings on weekends and after midnight! 🙆♂️ If you're trying to solve a Humanity Level Problem (HLP), then time really matters! You have to use your time to move the mission forward. In the main, you have to deprioritise networking to focus on building the highest performing team you can and developing your "company innovation" which creates your "sustainable business model". 👀 So you need to use your time wisely. I recommend "setting the bar" high for those that reach out without an appropriate intro or even those who are warmly introduced but you don't see a direct fit. That doesn't mean closing the door and never talking to anyone but instead putting a little bit of friction in the way. The right people will push through that easily. 🏋♀️ I recommend people respond with requests such as: "Thanks for your email. I am completely head down building at present and this sort of conversation looks like it's going to require some exploratory or sideways thinking. I, therefore, recommend that we take this on Saturday or Sunday when my diary opens up and my brain is more attuned to this type of thinking. You can book a few slots via my weekend Calendly link". 🧘♂️ Or for the night owls amongst you. A variation is "I know this is going to sound weird but any chance we can meet/call after midnight? I am a real night owl and often have my best conversations then etc..." 🦉 You want to be open and available to those who will really help move the mission forward. You are not wanting to come across as some A-hole who either never replies to people or who is "too busy" to meet mere mortals. You want to prioritise solving your mission and you are open to meeting anyone who can really help. Creating a little bit of friction in this case is a good thing. 🏋♂️

Congrats on making it through week 1! Welcome back to Day 8 of my 𝟯𝟬-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲! Watch this space for a daily tip or action to either grow or enhance your network. A lot of people just don’t like networking based on certain beliefs. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 “𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿.” I hear this from clients, colleagues and friends alike. It seems to be built on this vision that networking entails asking someone more powerful than you for something you want. Now there may be a power dynamic in play, but that doesn’t mean that you have nothing to offer in return. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘆𝗲𝘁, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀. That means it is a long game and not just based on one conversation in a lifetime. -->𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀: 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Congrats on making it through week 1! Welcome back to Day 7 of my 𝟯𝟬-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲! Watch this space for a daily tip or action to either grow or enhance your network. A lot of people just don’t like networking based on certain beliefs. This week we are busting the belief that “Networking is just large social gatherings with forced conversations with strangers.” Networking is simply a process for creating connections and building relationships. -->𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 “𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂” If you’re not sure what this is, it is usually on the side or bottom of a LinkedIn profile you are looking at. Happy Monday, everyone! As we dive into another week, let’s take a moment to reflect on our networking experiences. Ever sent out a connection request, only to realize you’ve just added a new ‘friend’ rather than a warm lead? It's a common situation in the networking world! 🤔 Remember, connections don’t automatically equate to leads. My word of advice: Let’s focus on nurturing relationships that truly add value to our professional journeys. Share your funniest networking fails or any tips you have for turning connections into meaningful partnerships in the comments below!
