Chasing quick wins often leads to regrets later on. When making big decisions, it's crucial to strike a balance between short-term wins and long-term success. It's easy to be tempted by quick fixes and instant rewards, but they usually don't lead to lasting growth and achievements. Truly forward-thinking leaders and organizations understand the importance of waiting for results. They're willing to give up immediate gains for bigger wins in the future. Let us take the Mumbai Indians case. Their sudden decision of making Hardik the captain, hoping he could take Mumbai to win, as he did for Gujarat, without thinking of the team being under Rohit Sharma for a decade, backfired for them. Short term thinking. Whereas Kolkatta’s win, comes with a strategic decision to onboard Gautam Gambir, their past mentor, and captain, and work on the whole team, rather than focusing on one single player. Kolkata had previously won two cups, once under his captaincy and later under his mentorship, and he repeated the magic this year. When you work on a long term goal, with the team together, not caring of the short term losses you might have to face, is when you create history.
