🏞️ Champion of the Environment Video Campaign 📺 #Animals play a vital role in maintaining balance on #Earth, yet we ignore their importance. It is crucial to raise #awareness and educate the unaware about the consequences of our #actions on these gentle beasts. I have recently participated in the annual Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) competition, where I chose the declining population of the #Malayan #Tapir as my main subject matter. 🦏 With only 2,000 left in the wild globally, roadkill and habitat loss are the major killers of this animal. Therefore, I carefully crafted and #edited a video that highlighted its threats and how we can unite, as conservationists, to save the Tapir from extinction. Due to my message and powerful explanation, I managed to win #First #Prize on the #national Malaysian stage, for the age category 14-17! 🏆 I hope my project is selected for the #global stage, as it would align with the goal of raising #awareness and conserving the Malayan Tapir. Yet again South Africa and its lion breeding industry are making the news. Back in September last year, the shocking news broke of a South African lion farmer who was sending ten healthy lions – some who were pregnant – to the country of Laos in East Asia. In the Carte Blanche insert the following words sent chills down my spine: "one (pregnant female) lost all 5 cubs and the lioness with two surviving cubs were separated from her offspring." Globally animal welfare organisations, including FOUR PAWS, heard alarm bells. One of the reasons being that in Laos, tigers have been hunted to extinction, yet the controversial tiger wine and other big cat products was still in high demand. Many of us in the big cat protection and animal welfare sector knew that this complex story did not include a happy ending for the lions on their way to Laos. Carte Blanche investigated and what they found was shocking. So, the question remains - are lion bones from South Africa really fueling the tiger bone trade in Laos? South African lions are being shipped to Laos where they are suspected to be feeding the country’s big cat bone industry, which traditionally targeted tigers and now includes bones from lions due to a lack of actual tiger bones. FOUR PAWS Wildlife Trade Expert, Kieran Harkin, is featured in the Carte Blanche insert and fears that lions being traded under the guise of zoo trade are entering the big cat bone industry. Yet another layer to this complex and brutal industry where big cats are being commercially bred and sold for their parts. A South African farmer shipped ten healthy lions to a so-called ‘zoo’ in Laos, where its suspected they will be killed for their parts. Laos, where tigers have been hunted to extinction, still sees the high demand for their body parts for traditional medicine and tiger bone wine, and traders are including other species, such as lions, to fulfil this continuing demand. I urge you to watch the investigation by Carte Blanche that explores the intricate web of a complex story where lion bones serve as a chilling substitute for dwindling tiger bone supplies. A large portion of my work for FOUR PAWS has been dedicated to advocating and campaigning to end the intensive farming of all big cats and to ban all commercial trade of big cats and their parts from, within and to South Africa. Every day, more big cats are being born into the vicious exploitative system, perpetuating the suffering. We need to urge decision makers to act with urgency and ensure this ban happens so we can #BreaktheViciousCycle. ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wGIo8 Our #BreakTheViciousCycle campaign has relentlessly called upon the South African Government to ban the commercial trade of ALL big cat species and their parts. Join our fight and sign the petition today. The time to act is NOW! #AnimalWelfare #Lions #BigCats #FOURPAWS #AnimalAdvocacy #LIONSROCK

As we advocate for sustainable development, it's crucial to balance progress with conservation. The proposed 52km Mau Mau Road project poses significant threats to the Aberdare ecosystem, endangering rare species and disrupting vital water sources for millions. However, the suggested alternative route offers a win-win solution. By prioritizing the 33km Kariamu-Ndunyu Njeru route, we ensure timely transportation for local farmers, boosting their livelihoods while preserving critical wildlife corridors and the closed canopy forest. This just shows how collaboration can work and towards a brilliant, sustainable and effective end result.
We've had a brilliant few months in collaboration with Treefrog LTD who have created this amazing piece of film showing what the Seaweed in East Anglia Project has been working on, and our aspirations for the future. The short film features project partners Cefas and University of East Anglia, local cultivators Norfolk Seaweed, biostimulant producers Biotechnica, as well as Holkham Estate. We're so proud of what the project has a achieved so far and we hope that the video reflects this, thank you to everyone who has been involved in the project and the making of this piece. Please do take the time to watch it in full, it's a real beauty! #seaweed #norfolkcoast #shortfilm #innovation #aquaculture #aquacultureinnovation #algae #sustainableaquaculture https://lnkd.in/ejEPnt4y
