The science of assessment is so important. Through #NAEP Science, we seek to measure learning in the best possible way in order to get a true idea of what our students know and how well they can answer real world questions and make interdisciplinary connections. #NAGB #assessment #NAEPScience
We began process of revising the #NAEP Science Framework 2+ years ago after seeking feedback from the public and consulting with experts in the field. The new framework will provide insight on how well students understand phenomena and solve real-world problems. Tina Cheuk, Ph.D. #STEM #ScienceEd #EarthDay

Cary Nelson, past President of the AAUP, says DEI [DIE], politicized academic disciplines, and enforced political conformity are corrupting higher education: -“Public confidence will drop substantially if they know more about what the university is…actually devoted to.” -On DEI statements [DIE pledges]: “Once it becomes a requirement, it’s a form of tyranny that obliterates academic freedom.” -On academic disciplines: “Some are not devoted to the search for the truth. They don’t share that basic principle. They are largely devoted to the imposition of unified political belief.” I discuss a lot of these ideas with my research on academic culling and DIE pledges, you can find my preliminary results in Canadian Computer Science here: https://lnkd.in/gTYpMAnz https://lnkd.in/em3z4xJG

The University of Reading will take a leading role in training a new generation of mathematical climate scientists following an award of £16 million from the EPSRC. The Mathematics for our Future Climate CDT will be a joint venture between Imperial College University of Reading and University of Southampton alongside ocean, weather and climate services, and a range of industrial partners. More https://rdg.ac/43L9p46 This comes as we call on employers to make clear the importance of Core Maths for many key roles in their organisations, to support the announcement that schools and colleges in England will receive additional funding for each student taking a Core Maths qualification within their post 16 studies. The #NFER report for #BritishAcademy https://bit.ly/4ctybsh is worth a read for trends in subject choices across STEM, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. & Geography A Level is categorised as a social science subject in the analysis. A couple of extracts: * Geography also experienced a small decline from its long-term levels at the same time as decoupling of AS and A Level * Students are increasingly choosing to only combine STEM subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Maths, or only combine Social Science subjects, like Geography, Psychology, and Economics. #geographyteachers
