I recently completed my internship at BenchSci where I had the opportunity to receive mentorship from the Data Standardization Team and gain technical skills! Here are just some of the skills I learned in just 5 weeks: - Vertex AI Generative Models - BigQuery and SQL - Hugging Face Transformer Models I learned to understand my code deeply, optimize efficiency, and consider user interaction. One of the best experiences was being mentored by my team who held me to the same standards as a BenchSci employee! Chris Baim, Minnie Hung, Lamia Hossain, Frank Pang, M.Sc., Cristina Pérez-Ramos The culture at BenchSci is incredibly supportive and I'm grateful for the The Knowledge Society (TKS) x BenchSci challenge that enabled this opportunity in the first place. Hi everyone! For the past month, I've been interning at BenchSci and Dartmouth University - where I've learned more about coding than I have in the last year. From image analysis techniques to RAG models, these experiences have taught me that I still have much more to learn about machine learning and deep learning! In addition to the skills I've learned, I'm grateful for the mentorship I received at BenchSci so far - it has been incredible to work alongside and learn from you Chris Baim, Cristina Ramos Pérez, Ph.D., Lamia Hossain, Minnie Hung. Hi everyone! I'm excited to share a few updates for the summer! 1. I will be interning at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Center. What I am most excited about in this internship is learning deep learning techniques to analyze metagenomic sequences for the application of personalized medicine! 2. I will also be interning at BenchSci, an AI x biomedical research science company based in Toronto, working on leveraging LLMs to improve productivity & efficiency on the Science and Engineering Teams. Over the next month, I'm going to be learning OpenGL and C++ to eventually be able to visualize medical scans in AR. Every week, I'll be posting resources that I found helpful and sharing my progress! And even articles on concepts/ideas I find interesting! ---Week 1---- C++ Basics OpenGL Basics Side note: I'm also working on understanding the biomechanics for soft tissue registration in AR (the research doc is a work in progress!).

Hi everyone! It’s been a while but I have some exciting updates on my AR x Surgery Project! I recently just bought a HoloLens and I’ve started Unity development with the HoloLens using the Mixed Reality Toolkit I also received a 3K grant from Mercatus Center at George Mason University (Emergent Ventures) to pursue my project even further! Recently, I applied to a program to get mentorship and build out my AR x Surgery project even further. The program results will come out on January 30th, and I realized that I was waiting for the decision to come out to work on my project. And what's even more stupid is that I was basing my decision to continue working on this project depending if I got into the program or not. So I decided that I'm not going to wait till January 30th to build out my project - I'm going to start working on it by the end of next week. 💡 Don't wait for an opportunity to build something you love. 👉Update on validation from surgeons: I haven't been able to schedule many meetings compared to the number of reachouts I did. I'm going to be trying a new strategy next week by cold-calling clinics and asking if any surgeon is available to chat. Not sure how this will go, but it's worth trying out! Thanks Ayaan Esmail for the tip! If you know any surgeons who have 10 - 15 min to chat and provide their insights on my project -- I would love to connect with them!

The first build-in-public post of the month 🥳 For these next few weeks, I'm not necessarily going to be building. My goal in the next few weeks is to get validation on the project I've been building for the past 3 weeks: A platform that optimizes surgical workflows. With my platform, surgeons can view everything about a patient in one place and AR, including their MRI / CT Scans and medical history. I want to build something useful for surgeons and ultimately something that can be integrated into hospitals. If you know any surgeons, please tag them below! Would love to connect with them!
