Today thought Day-8 When I was younger, I used to wait patiently for the things that fascinated me. I thought that these things would become affordable at a certain age, but as I got older, I realized that life still forced me to wait and set me back a lot while I worked to improve my flaws and faced many obstacles. First off, I believe that a bachelor's degree suffices to land a decent career. I believe we should put this medical and engineering degree on hold and try our hand at some digital marketing, but even after four years of hard work, I still wasn't able to secure a decent job. It has nothing to do with a career; rather, it's about a desire, which in my case I believe I might realize with a little revenue, but again. New graduates with such degrees are in high demand in the market. believe that chances rather than degrees are what important, and that everyone in the market should consider how to best utilize other people I see, another recent graduate. #creativeminds #freshgraduates #mediascience #education #akhirkbtakghabraoga

Academic Escape & Career Clarity Coach for PhDs | Job Search & Career Educator | Keynote Speaker & Workshop Facilitator | Online Community Builder
Professors may worry that because they've spent so many years working in an academic environment that they have limited (or nonexistent) opportunities elsewhere. Now, there are particularities about working as a faculty member, and these differ across fields and types of institutions. Whatever your experience, you wear a lot of different professional hats; that is, you have a lot of expertise across multiple professional domains. Both your job-specific and transferable skills (to categorize them in this way) are rich with the kinds of results and impact that will make you a valued employee in many different kinds of roles outside academia. The transferable skills workshop I facilitated yesterday for folks in my PhD Career Clarity Program provided a ton of evidence for this! If you're feeling down on the relevance of your abilities to other kinds of employers, doing a similar workshop or exercise might be just what you need to affirm to yourself that you are well-positioned to shift into a better-for-you role. The next steps will be to clarify what you actually want to do, determine what it's called and who hires for it, and then start marketing yourself for these opportunities. You can totally do this! (I can help.) #PhDCareerClarity #PhDCareers #PhDJobSearch #Academia --- 👋🏻 I'm Jen! I help professors, postdocs, and other overworked, underappreciated PhDs change careers without sacrificing what's important. 👉🏻 Do you want to land a great-fit role that lets you live where you want, get paid well, and do meaningful work with supportive colleagues? Helping Researchers secure permanent contract beyond academia | Career Development Adviser | Coach | Mindset Mentor | Job Search Strategist | Top 15 Coaches in Edinburgh
Over the years your career target was to stay and progress in academia. You enjoyed teaching students, research, working with people from different backgrounds. But, you don’t think that pursuing an academic career is fulfilling. The job insecurity and relatively low pay are starting to take their toll on you. You knew these would be a factor when you decided to pursue this career, but circumstances have changed. Your priorities have changed since you were a PhD student. You are now in mid-30s and find it challenging to start a family if you stay under the current employment conditions. You have tried to get a fellowship position, but these positions are competitive, and you didn’t get it. You could apply again, but there is no guarantee. You don’t think you have the energy or the drive for that, knowing that at the same time you need to apply for temporary post-docs to keep you in an academic job. You know there’s always trade offs and that the grass may not always be greener somewhere else, but you are willing at this point to make a change towards an industrial role. But, it is overwhelming. Trying to filter jobs in different industries, different countries, and different requirements. You look on LinkedIn and you realize that while there are many opportunities, you need to decide what exactly you want to do next and how you can go from where you are now into where you want to be. I hear stories like this often. Can you relate? #reseacher #engineering #postdoc #stientist #careerdevelopment

Ph.D. | Marketing Strategist | Science Career Coach | Personal Branding | Guiding science students to get hired in their desired job roles
Choosing a career in life sciences outside of academia in not a MISTAKE! Neither it is a TIME-PASS nor does it downsize my intellectual ability. Being from life sciences background, we are anyways devoid of the insights into life sciences jobs to start with. In this situation, if someone decides to go for a career outside academia, then you need to cross many hurdles! First challenge is to find those people, who can throw some light on getting a job in the life sciences industry. Everyone around us keeps telling us about taking up PhD after your masters but what if I do not want to go for it? Second challenge is to make our family understand why you do not want to become a professor? After all, when you entered into life sciences, there is only one profession that they know of and can understand is that you will become a professor! Now if you tell them that you are going for a “job” after your degree, they will never be convinced (most of the time) that you are on the right path. And mind it, they will keep poking you about the vacancies for teaching positions all the time! Thirdly, and the most frustrating situation that a life sciences student faces is to explain to your peers and mentors, why you do not want to go for a PhD? Why you have chosen your career outside academia despite being so good in your lab work/ project. It is just so difficult to retain your worth and trust in their eyes once you share with them that you do not want to build your career in academia. Why is it that a life sciences individual has to explain his/ her choices to the society? Why can't they choose their career based on their strengths and considering their weaknesses, their expectations from life without being judged! It’s time to let us BREATHE and be okay with the fact that one does not want to do PhD or a Postdoc but rather build a career outside of academia! Have you faced any of these challenges? I would love to know your story! Leave a comment. #motivation #linkedintopvoices #buildyourcareer #ownyourskills

Transforming careers for Ph.D.'s Engineers & Researchers Through My RRAPID Framework | | Founder Dynamic Professionals Hub | Scientist (Ex-GE) | Speaker @ IITs & corporates
10+ Ph.D.’s, 1 common mistake that is costing you your career In the past two weeks I have spoken to more than 10 Ph.D.’s and this is a common trend I found amongst them that is keeping them stuck. Everybody wants to pursue, a career that aligns perfectly with their core work which they did during Ph.D.🤷♀️ Listen, if no body told you this, then you need to know, only handful of us find jobs that perfectly align with the work we have done during Ph.D. Otherwise, most of us have to pivot, sometimes a lot, because your super niche work, may not have any commercial value, when moving to industry. It applies to post doc as well, you will hardly find a post doc, that is a perfect extension of what you have done in the past. ✅And that is good!! Because as much as Ph.D is developing deep expertise in something from nothing, It also about being able to extend that skill of developing deep expertise to aligned areas too. This helps you becomes T kind of professional, - the ones that have deep vertical expertise represented by the vertical line, and horizontal wider expertise across industries that makes you a little bit of a generalist. And it only confirms your other traits, such as quick learning, adaptability and leadership to name a few that is much valued in industry. Finally if you think you are still not convinced, then research the credentials of people who have transitioned to industry. You will seldom find any, who hasn’t pivoted from their original area of expertise. So next time you are offered to do something beyond your immediate expertise, be excited, because its an opportunity to learn and grow. That’s what you did during your Ph.D too. Mastered something starting from nothing. Didn’t you ?🙂 #rimadey #phd #researchers #jobsearch --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don’t know me, I am a scientist turned career elevation coach, helping PhD’s, researchers and other stem professionals build a career beyond pay cheque by teaching them soft skills the hard way.

The evolution of education as we navigate through the pages of time, one thing becomes clear: the educational landscape is constantly evolving. Do Postgraduates Really Have an Advantage? It’s a question I’ve often pondered: does having a postgraduate degree really give someone an edge in the job market? With my experience in the workforce, I’ve found that the answer isn’t always a clear-cut “yes.” In fact, in many cases, postgraduates don’t hold the advantage we might think. But why? Statistics show that while over 13% of Americans now hold a master's degree or higher, employers consistently prioritize practical experience over additional qualifications. A recent survey by the Harvard Business Review found that 53% of employers preferred candidates with relevant experience over those with advanced degrees. So, what’s the real advantage? While a postgraduate degree can open doors in specialized fields like academia or research, it’s not always the golden ticket in industries where adaptability, problem-solving, and experience matter more. What do you think? Does a postgraduate degree still hold weight? #CareerGrowth #PostgraduateDegrees #ExperienceMatters #JobMarket #ContinuousLearning #IsItWorthIt

Are university degrees starting to matter less in job applications? 🤔 With rising costs of education and some companies focusing on skills over formal degrees, the debate continues: Are degrees losing their relevance? While some companies no longer require a degree for hiring, there are still several ways a college degree holds value in 2024: 🔹 You Learn More Than Just the Subject Matter: In a university setting, you gain valuable life skills—time management, problem-solving, and teamwork—alongside academic knowledge. 🔹 Exploration Opportunities: University gives you the space to explore different subjects, hobbies, and career paths, helping shape your future direction. 🔹 Networking: Some of the world’s biggest companies, like Facebook and Google, were started by university students who met on campus. The connections you make in university can shape your career. 🔹 It Can Still Open Doors: While some roles may not require a degree, many companies still view it as a credential that demonstrates dedication and perseverance. 🔹 Some Positions Still Require A Degree: Jobs such as Medicine, Law and Engineering still require you to hold a degree before practicing in the vast majority of countries. In short, degrees still hold merit, but they’re no longer the only path to success. What matters most? 👇 Finding the right balance between education, skills, and experience. Do you think degrees are still essential in today’s job market? #JobApplications #HiringTrends #SkillsOverDegrees #CareerGrowth #FutureOfWork
