Introducing CONCAT LL 🌎: the Living Lab dedicated to building climate resilience in Catalonia’s agriculture. The European Commission's report on climate change revealed that certain regions in Europe could face up to a 30% reduction in crop yields by 2050, especially concerning the Mediterranean region 🚜. 👉With the various climate crises impacting Catalonian agriculture, one clear example being the drought emergency that hit its territories earlier this year, it has never been more evident that the effects of climate change are being lived now, and are not just a future concern. This is why, through our partnership with IRTA and Federació de Cooperatives Agràries de Catalunya, we are aiming to redefine how we mitigate the effects of climate change in Catalonia, through CONCAT LL 🌎. This October, CONCAT LL is organising a workshop, where we will be uniting top scientists, leading Catalan organisations and companies, and other key stakeholders to tackle the pressing challenges of Catalonian agriculture. The workshops, and all ongoing CONCAT LL projects, embrace 1) 🙌authentic collaboration, 2) 🤝 Shared Agendas, 3) 🚜decentralised monitoring and assessment, and support the EU funded project Eco-Ready, which aims to promote sustainable practices and innovation in agriculture across Europe. Read our latest blog post to find out more about CONCAT LL, which features insights from Claudia Grossi, PhD, Professor of Physics and Researcher at the INTE at UPC, and Ayman Moghnieh, Managing Director at Naked Innovations. 🔗 Blog post link: https://lnkd.in/ecNQ2XTA #CONCATLL #LivingLab #Catalunya #Catalonia #AgriculturalResilience

We are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new competition to encourage and support companies fostering innovation in our natural world. Generously supported by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, our three-year Farm491 Challenge Prize series will enable companies, which are developing innovative ways to solve challenges in the natural world, to invest in their business and develop their product. For the first year of the Farm491 Challenge Prize series, the challenge is ‘Mixed Land Use’. Land is under unprecedented pressure in the UK and globally, to make space for carbon sequestration, biodiversity, food and energy production, and housing, and one of the possible solutions is to stack land uses, finding synergies that mitigate this resource competition. We are looking for companies that are developing innovative products and services to support nature friendly, multifunctional land use. These could include enabling agroforestry, regenerative and productive housing development, intercropping food and non-food crops, or co-producing food and renewables. Entries for this year’s competition are open now and will close on 27 September 2024. Companies who have been shortlisted will be notified by 9 October 2024 and this will be followed by an online pitching workshop for shortlisted companies which will take place in November. The event will culminate in a Pitching Day held at Farm491 HQ at The Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester on 5 December 2024 where the winner and runner-up of the 2024 Farm491 Challenge Prize will be selected by a panel of academics and industry experts. 📣 Registration open for the first edition of our immersive course on carbon farming in Normandy, France ! ☝ Everyone welcome ! Although announced as a PhD course, anyone with an interest in learning more about - and think along on - the link between farming, climate change and the environmental crisis is welcome. 💡 As many scientists appear ever more worried about climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation in general, many farmers in the EU appear ever angrier at environmental regulations that may curb their production in the short-term. 💡 But the tight interdependence between farming and the environmental crisis is beyond debate. Farmers need biodiversity and a stable climate, and the climate and biodiversity crises won't be solved without the farmers! ❓ So why are we now more divided than ever? 🤝 This course is designed to take a modest step towards finding common ground. We take carbon farming as a case study and bring together pioneering farmers, NGOs, agronomists, ecologists, social scientists to seek better understanding of what a sustainable farm looks like, what motivates farmers to push towards such farming model and how to incentivise those that are not yet on board with it. Sustainability-driven Hydroponics Expert | Creating Greener Futures through Innovative Farming Solutions and Strategic Marketing
Hello beautiful people. This was an applied research project I did 2 years ago at Relearn Suderbyn Ecovillage on Gotland Sweden for the Baltic Sea Closed Loop Z-farming. Since then it's always been my dream to research and learn more about soil-less agriculture for different plants and start my own hydroponics and aeroponics farm in the North of Sweden. My documentary research based master thesis on the same subject shows my love and passion towards this project. I have attached a link below for your reference if you are interested to learn more about my findings. https://lnkd.in/dqkHjCmb After growing 16 different varieties of vegetables, greens and berries I would like to take my research further into growing tropical crops using hydroponics. It's been my aim in life to contribute to the communities in the North of Sweden with freshly grown fruits, vegetables and greens throughout the year. This enhances their ability of consuming locally grown organic. produce and hence minimizing the overall carbon footprint of transporting food from different parts of the world. This not only makes the local communities food sovereign but also provides greener and cleaner jobs that people can cherish. Just imagining an economy built over sustainable agriculture in the harshest of conditions where the temperature goes below -30C is a challenge in its own rights. Hopefully I look forward to research opportunities in the region to help propel a greener transition of the Nordics towards sustainable farming. I am ready to invest my life and career to see this future become a reality and help fight climate change by making the Nordic region transition towards a sustainable greener future. Any funding opportunities towards this green transition would be welcome. Together we can create a better tomorrow and spread our knowledge and skills to the rest of the world. #sustainableagriculture #aeroponics #hydroponics #greentransition #northsweden #sustainablefuture #Luleå #skellefteå #piteå #kiruna #norrland #sweden #soillessfarming #skellefteåkommune #luleåkommune #norbottonakommune #västerbottonkommune

Is #GenomeEditing the ultimate solution for all of agriculture's most pressing challenges? No. But it’s an important part of our toolbox to transform agriculture. We need innovations that work together to enable regenerative agricultural systems that preserve and build soils while using fewer inputs and still increasing productivity and food security. This includes providing farmers with the best plants. Ensuring #foodsecurity and mitigating #climatechange cannot be achieved without innovation. Currently, we use about 50 percent of the world's habitable land for agriculture. This proportion must be significantly reduced to create space for carbon sinks and refuges for animals and plants. At the same time, we need to produce more food for a growing population - and we need more accurate and efficient breeding methods to accomplish this big task. Nobel laureates have just issued an open letter calling on the EU to support NGTs. At Bayer we stand with the scientific community in supporting a responsible use of NGTs - and I can only recommend to read the letter for yourself: https://lnkd.in/d_GSm73i #NGTs #RegenerativeAgriculture
