It's all about boosting efficiency (think faster deliveries and happy customers!), expanding reach (more Coke for everyone!), and deepening local connections (tailored products for regional tastes, woohoo!). Begusarai, Bihar, is home to #PepsiCo's #second-largest bottling plant outside the #US! In a significant leap for Bihar’s industrial landscape, VARUN BEVERAGES LIMITED (VBL), one of India’s top FMCG giants, has launched a state-of-the-art PepsiCo bottling plant in Begusarai. This facility, strategically located in the Asurari area, stands as the second-largest PepsiCo bottler globally outside the US. Additionally, it holds the distinction of being the largest in the AMESA region (Africa, Middle East, and South Asia). 👉 Ninety percent of the workforce at the Begusarai plant hails from Bihar, providing direct employment opportunities to over 1,500 people. In a state where employment challenges have been a constant struggle, this initiative is not only providing jobs but creating a sense of pride among the local population. 👉 The plant is buzzing with activity as workers bottle PepsiCo’s famous carbonated drinks, fruit juices, and packaged drinking water. Each bottle carries with it the story of a new Bihar—one where industries flourish and local talent drives growth. Building Dreams in Record Time 👉 Constructing such a massive facility is no small feat, but completing it in just 11 months? That speaks volumes about the dedication and expertise involved. The Rs 550 crore investment showcases VBL’s faith in Bihar’s potential to become a significant player in India’s industrial landscape. From its conception to completion, the plant’s journey has been swift, efficient, and highly impactful. 👉 But beyond the numbers and technical achievements lies a more human story—one of transformation. For many in Begusarai, this plant represents more than just economic upliftment. It's a symbol of hope, opportunity, and progress. The youth in Bihar often leave the state in search of better opportunities, but with VBL’s investment, many are finding meaningful work closer to home, allowing them to contribute to their own community’s growth. A Game-Changer for Bihar’s Economy 👉 Varun Beverages' entry into Bihar signals a shift in how businesses view the state. Traditionally, Bihar has been considered an agricultural hub, but with major corporations like PepsiCo setting up large-scale operations, the state is now being recognized for its industrial potential. 👉 The bottling plant has opened doors for other supporting industries—logistics, packaging, transportation, and even small-scale suppliers. Its ripple effects will be felt across Bihar, boosting not only employment but also local businesses. It also brings a sense of pride to the state. With so much focus on development, modernization, and industry growth, the people of Bihar can now envision a brighter future, driven by corporate giants and homegrown talent working together... In 1910, B.C. Sinha, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, made history by founding India's first canning company. The factory specialised in preserving fruits such as mangoes, litchis, pineapples and pears. The annual output reached an impressive 1 lakh bottles and tins (as per those times)... catering initially the Calcutta market. A significant portion of the produce was exported to London, Europe and USA. The state-of-the-art facility, spread over an acre, housed modern machinery for efficient production. The company's success extended beyond canning. Recognising market demand, a branch was opened in Calcutta specifically for the sale of jams, jellies, chutneys, and a wider range of condiments. The quality of the products garnered praise from a visiting British officer who commended the "up-to-date processes" employed. The company's focus on high standards resulted in "excellent quality" canned fruits and jams. This commitment to excellence played a key role in securing a lucrative contract to supply British troops stationed in Mesopotamia. The thriving business evidently yielded "good profits" for the proprietor, signifying a significant contribution to India's nascent food preservation industry. The factory shut down due to a combination of factors. 1) Lack of funding support from Swadeshi banks 2) Problems adapting the Californian canning process to mangoes. The machines were imported from US. 3) In many reports I have read.... although Mr. BC Sinha was very good at manufacturing he lacked business acumen. 4) The factory struggled to find enough raw material (fruits) to meet customer demand at that time.
