Deputy General Counsel, Litigation at National Association of Manufacturers - NAM
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Aviva Wein of Johnson & Johnson at the National Association of Manufacturers - NAM Conference of State Manufacturing Associations’ summer leadership meeting for a discussion on the business of mass torts—a $13.5B industry that has transformed civil litigation into a lucrative investment instrument.
The NAM Legal Center joins manufacturers in pushing for a judiciary that is fair, transparent and efficient.

Not only am I a major fan of everything Small Giants Academy does and their leadership in the impact world, I also believe that a new type of conscious leadership is required if we are to be responsible stewards of business in the next economy. Thanks to Mele-Ane Havea and Francie Doolan (Garretto) for helping make that a reality. Here’s to the next generation of board directors leading with purpose. #boardmatters#boardsmatter

Todd, great post, and timely. Thanks.
It is clear that acquisitions can add immediate scale and access to coveted markets. But there is a substantial downside risk that for some reason, becomes a big surprise when that downside presents itself.
As of early 2023, less than a handful of Med Device companies had made substantive organizational investments in QA, dedicated to M/A.
However, over the last 14 months, we have seen numerous clients identify the need to elevate QA's participation while building the talent needed to make create the QA /RA recipe and then execute in support of the due diligence and integration.
Success requires technical savvy, energy, business acumen, and a decisiveness to step up, and deliver pragmatic direction. Need to be tough enough to say 'no', while finding a solution!
This is a coveted expertise that companies need; and what a fun opportunity for the right individual.

I had the honor of being invited to be a speaker at last night's OC/Empire ASQ meeting. The group was very welcoming and engaged.... it was a real pleasure to spend some time with them.
My topic was "The Role of Quality in the M&A Process". Below is the deck I shared but it was really about the real life stories I shared from experiences on both side of the M&A table and the terrific questions generated by the group.
