🌍 Investing in the Future of Madagascar’s Children 🌍 Madagascar faces some daunting educational challenges: 😥 High Dropout Rates: About 50% of children in Madagascar drop out of primary school before completing the final grade (All in School, 2021). 😥 Limited Access to Secondary Education: Only 33% of children transition to lower secondary school after completing primary education (All in School, 2021). 😥 Teacher Shortages: With a student-to-teacher ratio of 40:1, quality education is hard to deliver (All in School, 2021). 😥 Low Literacy Rates: A shocking 96.73% of primary school children leave without being proficient in literacy (USAID, 2023). 😥 High Rates of Out-of-School Children: In the south, 40% of children don’t attend school at all (All in School, 2021). 😥 Underfunded Education Sector: Madagascar spends less than 3% of its GDP on education, one of the lowest rates globally (USAID, 2023). At Sekoly Kintana, we're committed to changing this narrative by providing high-quality Montessori education in Fort Dauphin. Our goal isn’t just to offer 100% scholarships—we’re building a school that can sustain itself in the long term. "I don't go to school." "I don't have anyone to buy my school uniform and books." 💧These were the replies we got whenever we asked a child on the street why he/she was not in school. 💧In the busy community of Oke Odan, Oluwatomisin Adekunle and I noticed something troubling. Many children were out on the streets during school hours, selling goods and helping their parents instead of being in school. These children wanted to learn, but their families couldn't afford school costs. 💧As TFN fellows, we decided to act. We visited the children and their parents at home, talking with them to understand their situation. 💧We found out that the families valued education but lacked the money for school registration, uniforms, books, and pens. 💧Seeing this need, we started the Learning Lift Initiative. This project helps children return to school by covering these costs. The goal is to give at least 20 children in Oke Odan a chance to learn and build a better future. 💧The Learning Lift Initiative is already making a difference. Seven (7) children who were once on the streets are now back in school, excited to learn. 💧In my subsequent post, I'll tell the story of these seven (7) learners and their progress so far. Stay glued! 💧Parents are happy and hopeful for their children’s futures. 💧But we are concerned because these children might not be able to continue their education come next school session due to the need for them to be fully registered in the school with the sum of 10,000 per head and purchase other learning materials. 💧The Learning Lift Initiative seeks support from kind-hearted individuals and organizations who want to make a difference in these children's lives. Nothing is too small; all contributions are appreciated. You can donate using the link below:👇🏾👇🏾 https://bit.ly/3V55oVs 💧Material donations like books, pens, pencils, and erasers are also welcome. You can send an email to further discuss how you can get the materials to the Oke Odan community: 👇🏾👇🏾 okonekong81@gmail.com 💧The Learning Lift Initiative is dedicated to bringing hope to the children and families in the community. Together, with support from kind individuals and organizations, we hope to change lives and create a brighter future for everyone. The issue of fundraising in schools is important and requires deeper discussion, investigation, and broader public engagement. At its core, the problem is not whether schools should or shouldn't conduct fundraising but rather why, for instance, nearly 90% of Ontario's publicly funded schools see a need for it due to funding shortfalls, inflation and increasing costs. Schools are struggling to balance their budgets while trying to provide quality education. They are given nearly an impossible task. According to People for Education, each dollar spent on education generates $1.30 in total economic benefit. It's time to discuss increasing public education spending so that our schools and teachers are equipped to deliver quality education to all students. https://lnkd.in/gadq4MKs #PublicEducation #QualityEducation #Education #Fundraising
This morning on The Current CBC, we're delving into the impact of fundraising in schools nationwide. How does relying on fundraised dollars affect school budgets and equity? How we can share insights and best practices across the country? According to @PeopleforEducation data for 2023-24: - Ontario elementary schools in low-income neighbourhoods raised less than half the average amount of schools in high-income areas. - The fundraising amount per elementary school varied significantly, from $1.00 to $200,000. - The top 10% of fundraising schools raise as much as the bottom 77% combined. Check out the full discussion on fundraising challenges in schools: [Link to CBC article] #Education #Fundraising #SchoolBudgets

YETIPAUL FOUNDATION - CHILDREN'S DAY 2024 Children are the cornerstone of a society's future. Their well-being directly impacts the social, economic, and cultural health of the community. By investing in children, societies invest in their own continued prosperity and development. Recognizing the vital role children play, the YETIPAUL FOUNDATION is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children through various activities and interventions. In February 2024, we successfully commissioned a solar-powered borehole, benefiting both the children and the broader community. We are also constructing a new toilet facility, set to be completed by June 2024. To honor Children's Day, we will be visiting the students of Oke-Ita Methodist Nursery and Primary School on May 28, 2024. The event will feature various activities designed to encourage fresh perspectives and ideas among children. We believe that fostering creativity and critical thinking can lead to progress and development in various fields. We encourage student volunteers to submit a write-up about their school. Every year, YETIPAUL FOUNDATION is committed to creating a better learning environment and experiences for children living in underprivileged communities. Our Next Challenge: This summer, we are starting a vital refurbishment project for Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. This school needs urgent attention, and we will be tackling it in stages due to the project's scale and funding needs: Phase 1: Removing the existing roof and other worn structures Phase 2: Replacing the ceiling and roofing Phase 3: Renovating the classrooms Phase 4: Repainting the school building Phase 5: Providing new furniture and school equipment The total cost of the project is estimated at N20 million (£15,000). We welcome contributions from funders and partners to help us achieve this goal. 0125372864 Yeti Paul FOUNDATION Wema Bank, Nigeria https://gofund.me/80f2db0b Donate to Restoration of Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School, organized by YetiPaul Foundation The Yeti Paul foundation is a charity in Nigeria that aims to ad… YetiPaul Foundation needs your support for Restoration of Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School gofund.me TOUCH A LIFE, IMPACT GENERATIONS

Supporting Newberry County schools can have a significant impact on the quality of education and the well-being of students and teachers. Here are some ways you can help: 1.Volunteer Your Time: Offer to help with school events, extracurricular activities, or in the classroom. Our schools appreciate extra hands for tutoring, mentoring, or assisting with misc. tasks. 2. Donate Supplies: Teachers often need basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, art materials, and books. Donating these items can help alleviate some of the financial burden on teachers and students. 3. Join the PTO or Run for School Board: Getting involved in the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) or running for the school board allows you to have a direct impact on school policies and initiatives. It’s a great way to advocate for improvements and support school programs. 4. Support Fundraisers: Participate in or contribute to school fundraisers. These events often raise money for essential programs, equipment, and activities that enhance students’ learning experiences. 5. Advocate for Education: Speak up for policies and funding that support public education. Contact our local representatives, attend school board meetings, and stay informed about educational issues in our community. 6. Offer Professional Expertise: Call your local school if you have a particular skill or expertise, offer to share it with the school. This could be anything from giving a guest lecture to helping with a school project or career day. 7. Encourage and Appreciate Teachers: Show your support for teachers by expressing gratitude, offering help, and recognizing their hard work. Small gestures like thank-you notes or public recognition can go a long way. 8. Create a Positive Environment: Promote a culture of respect and support within the school community. Encourage students to be kind and inclusive, and work with other parents to foster a positive atmosphere. WISHING OUR KIDS, EDUCATORS & STAFF A GREAT 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR!

A new way to fund state schools - a generous donation similar to the Guild and Faith systems of extra funding for state schools but with more money for one school. I am surprised that the unforeseen consequences, mentioned here, are not seen by someone with such a clear vision of a future world; it makes one wonder if they have any real understanding about state schools, their funding and their impact on each other and the local community. The recent reports by the Sutton Trust on the disparity between schools in rich and poor areas would, perhaps, be worth sharing with the donors. Isn’t this the sort of funding that every school and every child deserves? - to learn in an environment as described here and to receive a high quality of education appropriately funded.
