In a rapidly evolving urban landscape, the importance of community-centric housing design cannot be overstated. As architects, we are responsible for creating spaces that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging. Designing housing beyond individual units to incorporate shared spaces, such as gardens, courtyards, and communal areas, is critical to nurturing vibrant communities. These spaces become the heart of urban neighbourhoods, where residents can interact, collaborate, and build lasting relationships. By integrating thoughtful planning, pedestrian-friendly zones, and versatile recreational areas, we can transform housing developments into dynamic ecosystems that prioritise human experiences, where people can feel connected and engaged. This approach is essential for creating thriving urban communities — where everyone feels a sense of belonging. #UrbanDesign #CommunityLiving #HousingDevelopment #Architecture #UrbanPlanning #GPMArchitects

Placemaking is indeed a vital concept in the realm of urban design and architecture. As the world continues to urbanize at a rapid pace, it's essential to focus not only on creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces but also on building communities and environments where people can truly thrive, connect, and find a sense of belonging. By engaging the community, listening to their needs and desires, and involving them in the design and development of urban spaces, cities can evolve into more vibrant, sustainable, and people-centric places. Placemaking recognizes that cities are not just concrete and steel but living organisms where social interactions, cultural expressions, and human experiences take center stage. Architects, urban planners, and professionals who champion placemaking are instrumental in shaping the future of cities and ensuring that these urban spaces reflect the values and aspirations of their inhabitants. The celebration of World Cities Day is a reminder of the significance of this ongoing work to create cities that people not only live in but truly love. If you have any questions or want to delve further into the subject of placemaking or urban design, please feel free to ask. . . . . #placemaking #urbandesign #communitybuilding #cityplanning #architecture #urbanization #communityengagement #sustainability #worldcitiesday #peoplecentriccities #citylife #socialinteractions #culturalexpressions #humanexperiences #citydevelopment

100% agree with with the need to incorporate more greenery into underutilised urban zones, making them more sustainable, resilient and healthy! We need "living streets". According to a recent study, increasing the level of the level of tree cover from the European average of 14.9% to 30% can lower the temperature in cities by 0.4C, which could reduce heat-related deaths by a whopping 39.5%.
As we address the housing crisis, the key to adding density is to not sacrific green space, but to incorporate it! Creating great places means designing great spaces that people want to come and be. Density done right does not threaten the quality of neighborhoods... it enhances it! #density #design #greenspace #architecture #development #housing #housingcrisis #housingforall

For All Generations: Repurposing Underused Commercial Buildings to Residential Use at Melbourne | Bachelors Design Project on Urban Housing ‘For All Generations’ is a bachelors design project on urban housing by Atsuki Sato from the ‘Monash Art, Design & Architecture’ that explores the 'Postcode 3000' policy from the 1990s in a contemporary Melbourne context. The project aims to transform underutilized commercial buildings into a vibrant, multi-generational living space. It promotes inclusivity and community through well-designed housing clusters, shared amenities, a public library, and a communal rooftop garden, while fostering a sustainable and inclusive urban environment. The design process for housing and residential architecture plays a transformative role in redefining living spaces to better suit the rhythms of modern life. As architects and designers, we should focus on creating homes that offer an elevated quality of life. By integrating principles of microclimate control and landscape layering, we can enhance natural ventilation and reduce heat gain—strategies particularly effective for India’s varied climates. Sustainable materials that work harmoniously with the environment further reinforce the focus on climate-responsive design. At GPM Architects and Planners, we are redefining residential architecture by providing residents with a community-centric design featuring accessible green spaces, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and community spaces that strengthen social ties. We are shaping spaces that promote sustainability and belonging through carefully chosen materials and flexible spatial planning. #ResidentialArchitecture #Sustainability #CommunityDesign #HousingInnovation #HousingDesign #GPMArchitects
