Any product that merges mechanical, electronic, and software engineering requires a sophisticated production chain. Satellites take #manufacturing a notch further by adding layers of control engineering, remote operations, and quality assurance dictated by their unforgiving operational environment. Painting a detailed picture of what goes into making satellites is a daunting task by itself, but we at least tried to give you a general idea in our latest blog post. This is a motion-compensating #satellite array installed on a #ship. These are used for latency-sensitive satellite communication and tracking applications onboard ships at sea. Mechanical actuators detect the pitch, roll and heave of the ship from the waves, and adjust the satellite dish trajectory on a gyro-stabilised base. Cool! #maritime #engineering #communication

One of the main differences from aeronautical and other application control systems are the many sources of #uncertainties during operation. With this in mind, we combined the simplicity and applicability of known classical control methods with an Extended State Observer (ESO) to estimate the process disturbances. The resulting Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control #LADRC design method allows designing a classical controllers for the known process dynamics considering key frequency-domain specifications, while taking advantage of the LADRC disturbance rejection capabilities. The following article presents a study case of the implementation of these controllers for a turbojet with a variable exhaust gas nozzle. #electronics #controlsystems #flightcontrol #optimal #aeronautic #engineering #aerospace

A new NATO-funded effort led by Greg Falco ’10, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Cornell Engineering, seeks to make the internet less vulnerable by rerouting its flow of information to space if the underwater cables that transmit the world’s communications are attacked or accidentally severed. “Ninety-five percent of all communications flow through subsea fiberoptic cables. If those go down, we’re done as an IT society,” Falco said. “What we want to do, ultimately, is create a new backbone for the internet and redesign how it flows. And we can do that by creating this hybrid submarine cable network and satellite communication network that works together seamlessly in order to relay data to the relevant parties.” You can learn more about this by visiting https://lnkd.in/g5zniei2
Hybrid system would create new ‘backbone’ for internet in space

MEMS gyroscope: ER-MG-067 helps precise measurement For 18 years, #ERICCO has focused on the R&D and manufacturing of inertial products based on #MEMS #sensors and user needs, and is committed to providing high-reliability, low-cost MEMS inertial products to global users. As the core component, #MEMS #gyroscopes are widely used in aircraft, drones, ships, drilling equipment, RTK measuring instruments and other fields due to their miniaturization and integrated design. Today, let's take a look at how #MEMS #gyroscopes are used in #RTK measuring instruments? RTK measuring instruments use #GPS technology for real-time positioning and measurement. When measuring some obstructed or inconvenient locations, the signal will be blocked, resulting in inaccurate measurements or even impossible measurements. At the same time, due to the special environment of the mine, the measurement accuracy will also be affected by the magnetic field. The #IMU integrated with the ER-MG-067 gyroscope is not subject to external interference, can ignore the magnetic field, and can perform precise measurements in many special locations. The MEMS #gyroscope ER-MG-067 adopts a sealed ceramic LCC surface mount package, with bias instability <0.3°/h, angular random walk <0.125°/√h, and bias stability 3°/h. It is a high-precision, low-cost, and cost-effective gyroscope. Its volume is only 11x11x2mm, which can be well integrated into a cylindrical #IMU with a diameter of only 30mm, and seamlessly integrated into the RTK survey instrument for real-time interference-free and automatic tilt compensation. #RTK has a wide range of applications from preliminary mining measurement to site acceptance, line transportation, and safety monitoring. Its work efficiency affects the operating efficiency of the entire mine. As a relatively important component in #RTK survey instruments, #MEMS #gyroscopes have great potential. Done with the 3rd rotation of ECFP, had a wonderful time with Aircraft Electrical Power System team in Systems Engineering, Boeing. It was amazing working on 777X Voltage Drop Analysis Project, some great reasearch work on multiple Electrical Simulation & Analysis tools like Siemens Capital, Synopsis Saber & Amesim Simcenter. Though the project have a long way to go, it made me understand the importance of Model Based approach and VDA for such a complex system. Learnt a lot about generation, distribution & conversion of electrical power throughout the bird. It was interesting to learn how AC Power, DC Power, BEPS, Standby Power work together to make the bird tear the sky during all possible conditions and maintain safety as our the top priority. Would like to thanks Shobha Ramanjani, Sourav Naik, Bhanuprakash Venkatesh, Rajesh S., Ross Londerville, Aniketh Aangiras, Farhad F Marashi, Jake Justice, Betty Boyer, Sampoornam Ramasamy, Nicholas Graan for all the help provided during my rotation. #mbe #electricalengineering #systemsengineering #electricalpower #simulation #saber #siemens
