CleanDrive - Photothermal Excitation of the Cantilever 🚀 CleanDrive utilizes a near-infrared 785 nm laser aimed at the base of the cantilever, providing stable and robust excitation. This complements the 840 nm superluminescent diode light source used for detecting cantilever deflection. The result is a significant improvement in AFM performance, stability, resolution, and usability—especially in liquid environments. 🔬 Why it matters: CleanDrive enhances AFM capabilities by offering a highly reliable and efficient method for cantilever excitation, optimizing your measurements in a variety of experimental conditions. Our silicon AFM probes feature the so-called ‘rotated AFM tips’. Rotated AFM tip pyramids have steeper sidewalls on the side facing away from the holder chip. When mounted in the AFM system’s probe holder at the standard 10-13° angle, rotated AFM tips allow symmetric representation of high, steep features on the sample surface. #afmprobes #atomicforcemicroscopy #rotatedafmtips

Quadrant fiber optic for target tracking (patent pending) I have made prototypes of these and they have significant potential for producing rugged target tracking systems based on optical signals, e.g., thermal. Made from four large core, step index, multimode optical fibers, the four quadrant waveguides have no splices in the optical paths. The separate quadrants are isolated by thin film metallic coatings before being combined, minimizing crosstalk and LOS. I have made similar detectors for aiding in the alignment of surgical lasers at high power. So far not so good, but it's not a lost cause, yet.
