The Genuine Parts Company's U.S. automotive sales declined approximately 1% in the third quarter with comparable sales down 2.9%, which includes the negative impact of one less selling day year-over-year. Also, the third quarter of 2022 included the benefit of sales associated with NAPA Expo, a sales event held roughly every five years. This negatively impacted year-over-year comparisons by an estimated 170 basis points. Collectively, these two factors represented approximately 340 basis points of headwind. Often, I see automotive shipping companies offering to be a “single-source solution to all your shipping needs.” Don’t believe it! The equipment, experience, and operational experience necessary to safely handle and ship a $3-4 million dollar Bugatti or Koenigsegg is extremely different than what’s needed to ship a standard production car, SUV or even many of the premium cars sold today. Work with and through a transporter that specializes in high-end, exotic vehicle transport. Not a generalist shipper offering the lowest price or quickest response time to load. In life, you get what you pay or wish for: shabby performance or worse, damage in transit, with these low-cost service providers trying to be everything to everyone. It just doesn’t work. Concerns about quality of Auto Bulbs continues to be raised in consumer press. Further to the Sunday Times article that highlighted our findings about poor quality / non-conformity bulbs hitting the UK market; Auto Express this week have picked up the baton. Interestingly their Product Editor, Kim Adams backed up our claim with anecdotes and experiences of his own when he has tested bulbs for the magazine. The perspectives of Auto Express and the RAC are clear, that buying or fitting a bulb from an OE manufacturer, or a reputable brand, such as our parent company ams OSRAM (including Ring (Ring Automotive Ltd)) or Philips will give motorists confidence in the quality and in turn the safety of the bulbs. #aftermarket #aftermarketparts #carbulbs #autobulbs #ring #ringautomotive #roadsafety #road

The Genuine Parts Company’s automotive Global Automotive segment generated $3.46 billion in net sales for the quarter — an increase of 0.8% compared to a year ago but down 2.7% on a comparable-store basis up against an +8.0% comp a year ago.
