This is a great analogy! And... and, if he had put lots of bulbs in a 'series' layout* (as opposed to a parallel layout), then he could have shown this: 'If one of you doesn't shine, then it will have an impact on you all, because the team will not shine!' * A Series layout is where there is one wire, with the bulbs connected in a row, so if a bulb fails, the circuit is broken. In a parallel circuit, the wire connects to each bulb, but also a joining wire bypasses each bulb to allow the circuit to remain open/live. Remember the Christmas tree lights in the 70's ans 80's, and the search for the bust bulb?

It's not just about the words, it's about the imagery and the feeling it creates. In sport (and in business!), sometimes you need something to ignite that spark, to push you beyond your limits. Creative thinking in leadership can be the game-changer 💡

The number one piece of advice I’d offer younger women is this: Leadership is not a title. So start leading as soon as you can. You don't need to wait to lead until you have a certain job position or run your own business. Leadership is an ability and skill we can all cultivate, regardless of age or position. I regret not participating in team sports at school or group activities that would have allowed me to practice my leadership skills with my peers. I wish I had had more practice when I was young, but so what? The truth is, you can lead right now regardless of where you are in life. Look for opportunities to take initiative, speak up with your ideas, or volunteer for projects. The more you practice leadership, the better you'll get at it.
