Down is optional... Up is mandatory. Every year, visitors come to Grand Canyon and want to hike the corridor trails - especially during the hot summer months. One thing that a lot of people don't do - is come prepared. While we support the park by preserving and protecting trails, we also support the park by providing the Preventive Search and Rescue (PSAR) program. Earlier this year, we, in collaboration with Grand Canyon National Park, we released this 5 minute educational video on how you can be best prepared when visiting Grand Canyon - especially when hiking in the hotter months! https://bit.ly/3UJNFl2 Every year, thousands of contacts are made on the trails at Grand Canyon National Park thanks to Preventive Search and Rescue rangers and volunteers. It’s hard to imagine hiking an inverse mountain - but that is exactly what you are doing at Grand Canyon National Park. Oftentimes, visitors under prepare and take on a hike that is way beyond what they are prepared for. Hiking downhill can feel like a breeze for some people, but when you are trying to go to the river and back from the South Rim in a day, you have to climb out at the END of your hike - this leads to a lot of medical calls on the trail.
