Training / Probation Period : Whether to enjoy or an opportunity to learn? We often hear from individuals around us saying that the training or probation period is an opportunity to relax and not take responsibilities seriously, thinking that later on we will have to work or perform tasks, so why not relax now. It's essential to remember that training and probation periods are designed to nurture individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to excel in their roles. By taking these opportunities seriously and being engaged, individuals can: • Develop valuable skills and expertise • Build relationships with colleagues and supervisors • Demonstrate their capabilities and potential • Set themselves up for long term success with vision of personal and professional growth. but if we take probation or training period lightly then this mindset can lead to: • Missed learning opportunities. • Poor skill development. • Lack of preparation for real world challenges. • Reduced confidence and competence. • Difficulty catching up later on live tasks. It's essential to strike a balance between enjoying the training experience and taking it seriously. It's important to prioritize learning, growth, and development during these periods, rather than viewing them as a time to relax. By doing so, individuals can set themselves up for a strong start in their careers and achieve their goals.

Companies are insane in how much they need to realize how transferable skills are across so many industries. Like being way too overly specific about hiring someone with a specific skillset that should be easily trainable on the job. We need to force companies to not force workers to go back to school to learn a small skillset, instead companies need to freaking learn to actually train their workers. Its disgusting.

Learning new things at a job can indeed be crucial for personal and professional growth. Staying stagnant might limit opportunities for advancement and reduce job satisfaction. Continual learning helps keep skills relevant, fosters innovation, and can make work more engaging. However, some may prioritize stability or other aspects over constant learning. It's about balancing personal goals and values with career development.

While anchoring the Lawlexis International Career Training Session for Lawyers, one thing I would always do was ask for feedback. I asked for feedback on everything from the, food, tea break, lectures and even amenities. At the end of the training we would also share feedback forms to the Members of Faculty and participants alike. The revelations from this feedback have helped us make the training sessions better and more valuable to the lawyers who have attended. Feedback is a powerful tool that can drive personal and professional growth. Whether it’s positive reinforcement or constructive criticism, feedback plays a crucial role in helping individuals and organizations thrive. Why not ask for feedback from your friends and colleagues today?
