The Bear, on FX for Hulu, recently won 11 Emmys—and for good reason. It’s a show I’ve recommended countless times for its outstanding storytelling and pure entertainment value. But as I caught up on Season 3 this weekend, I realized just how relevant the show is to the work we do at Jobs for the Future (JFF). At JFF, we believe in the power of skills in the workforce, and know that opportunities for growth shouldn’t be limited by degrees alone. Acquiring transferable skills, learning on the job, and accessing relevant training are key to advancing careers and earning potential. In The Bear, a Michelin-star chef returns to run his family’s chaotic Chicago diner after his brother’s passing. Rather than bringing in an experienced team to transform the diner into a Michelin-star restaurant, he invests in his existing staff. A line cook with a passion for baking is sent to Denmark to refine their skills in pastry. The cooks, who once made the beef for the former restaurants classic Chicago sandwich, are sent to culinary school. The former diner manager helped oversee the restaurant's renovation, and eventually became the dining and hospitality manager. While the outcome of their Michelin-star pursuit is still unclear, one thing is certain: these former diner employees now take pride in their work. They’ve built a culture of shared growth and have gained skills that open opportunities for fine dining or other higher paying job possibilities. It’s a powerful reminder that with the right investment in skills and opportunities, we can build something extraordinary—whether in a restaurant or the workforce. https://lnkd.in/en9Cvr6g

HOT TAKE ... In an attempt to make the pub “A little bit of everything” we have lost the inherently pub like offer that made it singular in the first place. ... In American {Dive} Bars "You can make conversation with the Bartender at ease; your drink will never be empty if you choose. ... The team will move with purpose and speed, there will not be endless beer taps in the middle of the bar making it impossible to get served. Local offerings will not require a mortgage to purchase. You will feel as if your existence in the bar is integral to the experience rather than an inconvenience. Most importantly - The product will actually taste good and be delivered with a smile… You will be made to feel welcome; your story will be interesting (even if it’s not) and you will feel engaged by the experience. "Once you spend enough time in bars in the US system the offer, service and delivery are matched perfectly to expectation and maybe that’s what we need to focus on." https://wix.to/A1LXSQW #newblogpost #hospitality #bars #restaurants #foodwriting #blog #hotelmanagement #restaurantmanagement #writing #hospitalityindustry #drinks #peoplemanagement #reallife #hottake

Disclaimer: Though radical assertion to beryllium speaking from their ain experiences with celebrities, BuzzFeed can't corroborate the validity of these stories. 1. The unreserved aft "go time" isn't wholly accurate: "There is usually a 'hiccup' betwixt erstwhile the big says, 'go,' and erstwhile the contention really starts. That means we halt shooting and the culinary squad usually comes retired and talks down the ingredients with the chefs oregon the chefs conscionable speech amongst their squad and fig it out." –u/TTheorem 2. The contestants aren't arsenic unsocial arsenic you'd think. "My dada did camera enactment for a fewer Food Network-sponsored cook-off/bake-off things. Apparently, they person help, adjacent though connected aerial it looks similar they're alone. Someone volition assistance with basal prep and stuff, moving disconnected the contestant's directions." –u/violetmemphisblue 3. And for the drinks that request to look cold, they usage fake crystal cubes. "I participated successful a bartending situation akin to Chopped called Shaken the Cocktail Challenge (it's for YouTube). I was the 2nd occurrence that filmed, and the feline who was my hostile mentioned however determination was truthful overmuch clip betwixt the extremity of the drink-making and the sensation tests for his archetypal filming that it apt contributed to his loss. So they had to person these fake crystal cubes for immoderate drinks connected the rocks." –u/ArLeeNotLayOh 5. The play betwixt participants is exaggerated, to accidental the least....
