This stately volcano stands tall on the Antarctic continent 🌋 Landsat 9 captured this image of Mount Siple on February 26, 2024. Sunlight reflects from the snowy, icy surfaces, including the Getz Ice Shelf, which separates the volcano from mainland West Antarctica. Unlike many volcanoes in Antarctica, Mount Siple has a summit elevation of more than 3,100 meters (10,000 feet), making it one of the few not partially buried beneath the ice sheet’s surface. • A satellite image of the Antarctic continent. A white snowy landscape is broken up by black water. Near the center of the image is a white volcano with the label “Mount Siple.” It is surrounded by water on the bottom half of the image, and ice on the top half of the image.
