SpaceX has ambitions to establish a permanent Starship space station in Earth's orbit. According to documents from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s CSCC2, the plan revolves around utilizing a space station in low Earth orbit based on their Starship design. SpaceX's Starship boasts a habitable volume of approximately 1000m^3, surpassing the entire International Space Station's volume. Intriguingly, SpaceX could further expand this habitable space by adopting a Skylab-inspired approach, converting Starship’s propellant tanks into crew-friendly spaces – essentially making the entire Starship livable. Anticipations point to the Starship space station becoming operational in the 2030s. The timeline outlined in the CSCC2 document suggests that SpaceX is targeting a preliminary design review for the station by 2028.

Boeing's Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 Starliner spacecraft is being developed in collaboration with NASA's Commercial Crew Program. The Starliner was designed to accommodate seven passengers, or a mix of crew and cargo, for missions to low-Earth orbit. For NASA service missions to the International Space Station, it will carry up to four NASA-sponsored crew members and time-critical scientific research. Rubicon Space Systems won a series of contracts with a combined value of ~$6mm to deliver ASCENT thrusters to NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Air Force Research Laboratory in 2024. This also includes a Phase 3 award which is very rare. - $280k SBIR Phase 3 award to develop a 110N ASCENT thruster for NASA Marshall. 110 newtons is the “highest thrust class ASCENT-based thruster ordered to date,” Daniel Cavender said. - $5.1 million AFRL award to manufacture Qty ten 1N thrusters and qualify the thrusters for spaceflight - NASA Marshall Space Flight Center awarded Rubicon a $630,000 contract to develop the chemical component of a dual-mode propulsion system for a NASA mission.
