Scammers are targeting older Australians and their families by impersonating aged care providers. Help protect your consumer networks by sharing this advice from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
🚨There are scammers impersonating aged care providers to target older people and their families. How do you protect yourself and your loved ones? ✔️ Always stop and check the person contacting you is who they say they are before clicking on suspicious links, sharing personal details, or transferring money. ✔️ If you’re unsure, call your aged care provider using contact details listed on their official website. ✔️ Call and confirm account numbers with your provider, using details you've found independently, before transferring any money. ✔️ If something feels wrong, stop the conversation or transaction straight away. If you think you’ve been scammed, contact local police and your bank immediately. Learn more at 💻 https://lnkd.in/gyRAjtzW

We recognise the contributions across government and industry to reach this important milestone. We’ll continue to work closely with the Government and other key stakeholders throughout the consultation period.
Media release: AFCA welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement of its intention to establish a Scams Prevention Framework to prevent, detect, and disrupt scams and to enable consumers to seek redress through a dedicated external dispute resolution (EDR) scheme for scam complaints. We’ve started a scam website takedown service targeting online shopping scams and other types of scams. Scammers create fake websites impersonating well-known brands. They advertise amazing sales on social media and in web search results which can look legitimate. If a consumer sees an ad online or on social media with deals too good to be true, it's often a scam. Share these tips with your networks and report online shopping scams to Scamwatch. https://bit.ly/3XELLVh

Thanks to Services Australia for supporting the Scams Awareness Week Campaign by sharing real examples of myGov impersonation scams. You can join the campaign by reminding your networks to Share A Scam Story. The more people talk about their scam experiences, the less power scammers have. hashtag #ShareAScamStory
Scammers pretending to be Services Australia and myGov often target Australians and they can be very convincing. When people are affected by these scams, it can lead to unauthorised access of their myGov account. Scams cost not only Australian consumers, but also businesses and the economy hundreds of millions of dollars each year. Together with Scamwatch we’re asking people to ‘share a story, stop a scam’. Share your experience with scams in the comments. Your story can prevent someone else from having their money or personal information taken by a scammer. The more stories we hear, the better equipped we are to protect ourselves. If you’ve clicked on a suspicious link or given your personal information to a scammer, you can seek advice and support. You can find more information about how we can help in the comments. #ScamsWeek24 #ShareAScamStory
