What is the best way to pitch a business role vacancy? You’re planning on filling a business vacancy - a Marketing Manager, a Product Owner, or a Business Developer. What benefits do they value most? And how do you get the candidate interested in your vacancy? ⭐️ Here’s our approach, tested and proven to be working. For example, let's take the role of Product Owner. One of the key challenges in the search was the low percentage of candidates willing to consider the position. In this case, the first thing to do after reviewing the search strategy is to look at what exactly we are selling to candidates. We told candidates about "having", which didn't work because people were already doing what we suggested. Instead, the emphasis should be on 'becoming'. Understand the specifics of the role and what might be interesting to potential candidates, and integrate this into communication. For example, ask the hiring manager about growth prospects, even if the position does not initially provide for it. As for the Product Owner, we were looking for someone who would manage a separate line of business within the company, a strategic and visionary with ambition, and that's what we included in the primary communications. The number of interested in further communication has increased by 2.5 times. I DID IT! I've officially made my first hire! I was looking for two candidates: a business assistant and a content manager. I have zero experience in hiring but wanted to try to do it myself. Long story short: the search for the business assistant continues as it's turning out to be much harder than I thought. I began with the business assistant. What do I have? - I didn't like 80% of the applications - 10% of people didn't meet the deadline for the test task - other candidates either send me very strange test tasks or deleted our dialogues and disappeared altogether In the end, NO ONE made it to the final call with me. But I don't regret at all. It's been a great experience, and I haven't given up hope of finding this team member. However, I successfully filled the second vacancy. Almost on the first try! During the call with that candidate, I honestly said that I was a bit nervous because it was my first experience in recruitment, so I might not be familiar with some of the nuances. I banked on sincerity, and you know what? It helped me a lot! Within 5 minutes, we were already sharing laughs over common jokes. I realized - it was a 100% match with her! I knew I wanted to work with this wonderful person. As a result, we've been working together for almost a month now, and both of us feel comfortable with each other. I ask for the feedback on work processes, and she said that everything is super clear and structured. She's satisfied, I'm satisfied. Great result! Looking for work in educational content services? Consider this role Lynn Johnson shares below. Here's why this position might be fun if you like puzzles and solving things with elegant solutions. A given puzzle has its own logic, but most puzzles of a kind follow similar underlying rules. Like jigsaw puzzles say. The can be rectangles or round or irregular in shape when completed, but they work by fitting pieces together. Same with this role. It's about fitting the pieces together - a client's needs, their requirements, the rates, the workflow, the tools and documentation freelancers and other creatives need, the time line, and so on. There's a steady logic to it, but each project is its own puzzle, with its own challenges. You get to transfer ideas and strategies from one project to the next, but you are also often discovering new ideas and strategies because no two projects, like no two jigsaw puzzles, are ever exactly alike.

I was recently on the hiring side of things for a new #marketing role at my company, and there was a lot I learned about the job market (and myself) throughout the process. If you're looking for a new role or opportunity (or know someone who is), I hope this list of takeaways can help.   Note: This was for a remote Sr. Marketing Writer role in the #b2b #tech space.   🔄 1. Lots of Applicants Were Taking Steps Down   The job market is tough right now, and things seem more competitive than ever - particularly on the marketing side of things I was hiring for.   Many of the applications I reviewed, and applicants I talked to, were coming from higher level titles (and had the experience to match).    Some were looking for focus, some were looking to attach to a larger company, some noted how #AI was already effecting the outlook of their career path.   📊 2. Salary Expectations Need to Align   In my position I have to establish a budget for the role at the outset (before the job posting goes live). And with a lot of applicants in our pool, I’ll admit that this was one of the first filters I had to set. Sometimes I would see salary expectations align with the title adjustments noted above, often times I wouldn’t.    The few that our recruiter and I were able to get past screening, hit a balance between experience and salary expectations. Another dynamic is the location applicants were applying from (and how well that does or doesn’t track with a company’s regional pay scales).   💌 3. Cover Letters and Portfolio Sites Mattered   I’m not sure how many hiring managers are like me, but cover letters and portfolio sites gave me the extra context I needed for selecting applications I wanted to take to the next step. In the best cover letters, I could sense an applicant’s passion for the role and fit for our area of work. In the best portfolio sites, work was categorized well and great examples were displayed to show the range of content types the writer had experience with (reports, blogs, videos, presentation decks, etc) and the many departments they collaborated with to help produce them.   ⏳ 4. Timing is Critical on All Sides    We had a majority of applicants pile in at the start (if I were to guess, I’d say we got 80% in the first two weeks). When the recruiting process starts, I know I’m trying to make quick decisions to not leave any candidates in the balance too long. I also don't want to risk losing any of my top candidates through the passage of time.   There's risks on all sides, and the reality is that applications showing up later in the process are at a bit of a disadvantage.   📣 Anyone else been on the hiring side of things, recently? Using your actual job title on LinkedIn might be a bad idea! Some companies use fairly generic job titles in the official contracts. For instance, a ‘senior associate’ might work in audit, in the front-office at a bank, or be a software engineer. Similarly, a ‘regional manager’ might oversee marketing, finance, or maybe sales. Here is why it’s not a good idea to use those generic titles on LinkedIn: -> Your LinkedIn profile is like your business card at a networking event. You’d want to ensure it’s easy for any visitor to understand what you actually do. -> Recruiters often use job titles to narrow down search results when looking for talent on LinkedIn. With a generic job title they might not find you! So, do yourself a favor and use job titles that accurately reflect your role.
