In the words of Kamala Harris in this video clip, “the role of a leader is not to beat people down but to lift people up.” This resonates deeply with me. Leaders have the unique opportunity—and responsibility—to create spaces where empathy thrives. When we lead with empathy, we cultivate environments where trust is built, and that trust becomes the foundation for innovation. Imagine what could happen if every leader prioritized truly understanding and uplifting their teams? Trust grows, collaboration deepens, and suddenly, innovation flows effortlessly. In a world filled with challenges, the leaders who will uplift humanity are those who value empathy. Leaders who do not lead with empathy tend to be self-serving, egocentric and power focused. I do not call that leadership--I call that control. That type of leadership is not centered on the highest good for all. We thrive as a collective when we empower each other. When a leader walks in, their presence speaks louder than words. This is the power of command, and it’s more than just showing up—it’s owning the space. I speak passionately about this topic in workshops and presentations, in the context of our leadership presence as women. But let’s be clear on what command is NOT: 🚫 It's not about overpowering others. 🚫 It’s not about being loud. 🚫 It’s definitely not forcing attention. So, what is command? ✅ Command is energy. It’s the silent magnetism that draws people in. Your energy introduces you before you even speak. ✅ Command is poise. Staying grounded, staying calm. It's the ability to maintain composure even in the most intense situations. ✅ Command is confidence. You can’t fake confidence. It’s built from the inside out. Without it, you won’t captivate anyone’s attention. ✅ Command is clarity. Communicating with precision. It's not so much about what you say, but how you say it. ✅ Command is alignment. Your visual presence must match your inner energy. How you dress, your POSTURE, your body language—it ALL matters. Command starts with the energy you bring into the room. Show up with intention, confidence, and authenticity. Ladies, we get to define how we show up. No more templates. No more limits. You are allowed to give yourself permission to "take up the space" you need to lead. Your energetics are critical and you need to become aware of what you're projecting energetically. It doesn’t take a massive wave to upend old, unworkable structures and systems. It just takes a small percentage of people united in their vision and mission to create a ripple effect that changes everything for the collective good. That’s the power of alignment and purpose. Look at where we are in the world—divisiveness, polarity, and ego-driven policies that benefit only a sliver of the population. This isn’t sustainable. It never was. Patriarchy is over, and the old way of operating has run its course. The new way? It’s anchored in love, generosity, empathy, and humility. These are the qualities that will restore and rebalance our world. When leadership is driven by heart-centered principles, the ripple effect reaches everyone—not just the privileged few. 💡 Imagine a world where power isn’t about control, but about lifting others up. 💡 A world where success isn’t measured by profits alone, but by the well-being of the whole. 💡 A world where leadership is synonymous with service, not dominance. What an honor to be featured as a contributor for Small Business Currents on the topic of Emotional Intelligence and Self Awareness in Leadership. My contribution focused on embracing feedback for growth. Here is a snippet of what I shared: "Self-awareness has been a cornerstone of my leadership journey, and it’s something I’ve invested in for decades. For me, evolving as a human has always been a top priority because I firmly believe that who I am is how I lead. The more I understand myself, the better I’m able to show up authentically, make decisions that align with my values, and connect with those I lead on a deeper level. One specific example of how self-awareness has improved my leadership came when I received feedback from my Success Squad—a trusted group that includes my coach, therapist, mentor, and a few key allies. They help me see blind spots that I may not always notice, which is critical for growth." I went on to share about my tendency to overprocess and overthink which can sometimes hijack my momentum. I have been receiving so many downloads about our innate power as women. Yesterday one of my clients who has had many interactions/situations/crisis around water was led to realize that what she is going through right now with all the flooding on her land is another signal from God that she is to embody the properties of water even more. Because water is a FORCE! And we have that same force inside of us. But do we even recognize it? Our bodies are made up of 60% of this incredible life force. How is it a force you wonder. In SO many ways. Whether it's in the form of ice, a stream, a droplet, a waterfall, whirlpool, an ocean.... Water is: -Permeable -In momentum -Shape-shifting -Agile -unstoppable -Undeterred -Always finding a way to flow -gushing -unbound -Vast -And so much more! So because so much of this force is inside us, how much of it are you actually embodying? If you were to connect more with the water force in you, who would you be? My client said she would be moving forward full throttle and be the force she is designed to be despite all the repercussions of the flooding around her that has stalled many of her business plans. Because she is that force. She has that foreceness in her that she is ready to fully embody. And she will be AMAZING in that posture. So I ask you to consider...how can you more fully embody the properties of water inside of you to channel the innate power you possess? Because in that power is where you will make the impact and create the legacy destined for you. . . ..
